Has anyone evidenced their childs skiing on holiday for PE GCSE (AQA)?

Any tips. Thank you

We have for my DS and going to do my DD's at new year. If you can get hold of a go pro it takes better footage but a phone on a selfie stick also works well. Try to mix up the footage with different types of runs, steep blacks, nice reds to show good parallel turns and maybe some moguls. DD throwing in some jumps too. 😊

Yes! Fun bouncing down moguls holding a mobile…⛷️⛷️⛷️

To get tops marks you should include an element of competition as well as other skills on a variety of terrain. Will they be in classes that include an end of week race?

Just to add, PE was DS fave subject and he’s incredibly sporty… it was also his worst GCSE result. Not end of world - he got a 7. But it’s tough to get high marks.

I don't have experience but I will repeat some advice I heard on SnowHeads. If this was any other sport that your child participated in 1-2 weeks (I assume) per year, would you even be considering using it as evidence for PE GCSE?

(If you're near a ski resort or a snow dome/dry slope and they go every weekend then feel free to disregard).

When we go this year, we're going to film DD so that we have it as a back up. Her teacher recommended seeing if there is a time trial run and, if so, recording that and the time for the competitive element.

Back up to what? What other evidence do you already have?

The submission date for evidence is quite early (I think ds’s had to be in before February half term) so I hope you’re going away soon!

@Muchtoomuchtodo DD is only Yr10 so we have time. She is the classic case of doing two sports at a decent level so fitting in a third sport is a challenge time wise. It's a question of which sport, individual or team, can get her the best mark and take up the least amount of time. There has been a lot of reading of mark schemes going on! Tennis was an option as she used to play that quite well when younger but it seems to be one of the more challenging ones to get a decent mark.
I have to say I hadn't appreciated quite how much parental involvement was required for PE GCSE.

Going by the half dozen kids I know marks, ski ing is one of the easiest ones to score highly on. It seems to be a bit of a rich man's gcse unfortunately.

A kid at my swim club.

Ski-ed once a year. Score 24/25

Swam 5 times per week. Score 17/25

@arethereanyleftatall this is what is really grating with me about GCSE PE. DD and a number of her friends are all good club level sports people yet won't get particularly high marks as they're not elite so we're scrabbling around looking for what else they can fit it. We're fortunate to have skiing as a possible fall back. However, a group of us are also looking at getting some private climbing lessons for a group of five of them who are all in a similar predicament with time commitments for their main sport. The climbing person to just go through the mark scheme ticking off what they have to do. From all of their other sports, they are all strong with good hand eye coordination so should pick it up pretty quickly. It just seems wrong.
Originally, DD was going to use school netball for her third sport but then the training time for one of her other sports changed so she can no longer make school netball training or matches. She used to be in the A team so they have offered to let her play in a few games for the footage but she doesn't want to waltz in and take away someone else's well earned spot and she prefers her other sports and would hate to miss training.
Meanwhile, I'm just hoping she doesn't get injured at any point.

WJEC allows dry slope footage unlike the English exam boards which does make it more accessible as you can use evidence from local schools races.
