Which resort? Austria Vs Lapland

We have DS who will be 13, has SEN but has started really enjoying tubing and giving skiing a go at our local disability snow sports.
DD will be 10 and had lessons in Levi half term a couple of years ago.
DH is retired but used to be a keen skier. Won't ski all day every day but would do a few days.
I have a leg injury so would do just a few days cross country or winter walking plus possibly a spa day or sauna.

We went to Levi at half term and there was great snow, it was warm for Levi, daylight was fine. We might possibly get the DCs to have 1:2 lessons but DS can be very rigid and last time he did tobogganing only and it's possible he will get that in his head and refuse to ski. We'd have to go the week before DD half term here due to the flights. This is a much busier work week for me unfortunately.

OR we could go to Zell am See with Skiing 4 All and DS would have activities plus skiing and DD could do the town lessons. DH is afraid he will entirely refuse to do that and will cling to us. This would be first full week in Jan - much less busy for my work. I think DD would get more time with us separately if we did this.

DD is in Y6, and DS in an independent specialist school - DD school is understanding of her home life and would likely approve either week.

As you can tell DH is a bit anxious about this! He's also muttering about the cost and is very worried about the snow in Austria. We have also been to the Alps with late lamented Esprit but to higher resorts.

Half board is almost exactly the same cost in total with both - the cost of DS activities in Zell am See is pretty much the hotel cost and Finland is just so much more so the package is a huge price but the ski lessons would only be a few there.

It’s quite a specific situation and only you know what’s more suited to your son and his needs. I’d only say that weather systems are somewhat different in Austrian resorts so many don’t have the altitude we expect from French resorts and yet they still have decent snow. If it’s a bad year then early Jan can be iffy wherever you go. In a good year you’ll be fine! Tignes is one of the most snow sure places you can go and has apparently good accessible snow sports if you would consider another option.
Finally do take your question over to snowheads where there’s loads of people been to all type of ski resorts and some with disability snow sport experience I think. Good luck and hope it all works out.
