Resort help ☺️

Hi all ☺️
looking at surprising the fam with a Christmas ski holiday.
have spoken to some agencies but wanted to ask your advice too.

1)Morzine - it’s low down and not snow sure however they said we could go further up to the next resort at 1800 and there will be snow guaranteed. I like the sound of how magical morzine is at Christmas.

  1. Tignes - snow sure. Loads of activities. Kids ski schools etc and well priced. Why am I not convinced? Maybe because not as beautiful as morzine.

  2. les arcs 1950. Thenpricier option but seems to have everything. Just not sure if I want to pay the premium.

we are beginners. My wife and I are actually not that interested in skiing. Sure. We will try it. But we want to use the spa. Walk around. Whilst the kids are in clubs / ski school.
kids are 2,6,8 (2 year old is actually 2 and 10 months so tignes has ski school for her)

we like a nice village to walk to and around. Ski schools. Accessible. Child friendly.

any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if recommending somewhere else as long as snow sure.

thanks 🤩❤️

I would go for an all round traditional resort like Morzine. There will be snow for beginners ski school but don't expect much of your two yo other than a bit of outdoor play if not too chilly or wet. Make sure the other activities will be open and running as NY tends to be more of an event than Xmas itself.

Would you consider Val d’Isere? It’s linked to Tignes but has the old village charm that Tignes lacks plus tons of spa hotels and fancy shops if that’s more your vibe than the skiing! Also, I wouldn’t rate Tignes for beginners- there’s a couple of tiny nursery slopes but beyond that you’re stuck until you’re willing to brave blues, and they get really busy. Whereas stay on the Val side and it’s a quick gondola up to loads of snow-sure cruising greens with amazing views, which aren’t usually too busy as you have to seek them out, and then take gondola down when you’re done.

Morzine does give you that pretty village feel but it was rained out at that time of year a couple of years ago. Resulting in the entire population going up to Avoriaz which was rammed.

Could you stay in Avoriaz directly?

I'll throw in Samoens which we went to when my kids were little. Really gorgeous village and nice beginners slopes.

Yes I’d also consider Avoriaz (the 1800 resort up the hill from Morzine) at Christmas. You’re up on the hill already in a pedestrian/ski village and you can do lots of things like horse drawn carriage for the kids. There’s a nice spa and pool up there too. Lots of nice apartments for a week.

Low though in Samoens.

I’d go to Tignes, but then I like to ski.

If you want pretty, easy, and other activities, I’d go to Ruka and see Santa at the same time. Fantastic place to ski, really magical
