Help me find a ski resort near to Geneva

We are planning a second ski trip next year for the first week in April. I’d like to fly into Geneva and would like a resort within 2 hours drive.
I want a resort that is easy to get around. Plenty of greens and blues. We’ve just moved onto blues (although find them challenging) so want plenty of blues to practice next year.
Ive looked at Chaminox - looks complicated with all the different areas. Is anyone who has been here able to give me any recommendations of which area is best? I’ve looked at the piste maps online and each area doesn’t actually look to have that many runs?
the other area I like the look of is La Clusaz. Again if anyone has any insights into this resort id love to hear what it’s like.
Any other resorts within a 2 hour drive of Geneva that’s easy to get around and plenty of blue runs??

La Cluzaz or Le Grand-Bornand - Chinaillon, about 1.30h from Geneva, easy roads.
Both nice but in April it's slushi at best, a little late.

Avoriaz is about 2 hours from Geneva. Lots of blue runs and the resort is at 1800m so the snow stands a better chance of being OK in early April

Le Grand Bornand is a great resort for beginners but far too low at that time of year.
You might be ok with Flaine, it's a bit higher and has some great cruisy blue. It doesn't look like an attractive resort, but the skiing is good.

Do you have to fly to Geneva?

Flims/Laax is a short transfer from Zurich airport and great for beginners.

Obergurgl is about 2 hours from Innsbruck airport and has glaciers that are snow sure whatever time of year you go

Yes, you have to go high, especially at end of season. Do you really want to drive? You can go to Verbier and the 4 Vallées by train. Some trains you have to change in Martigny, others direct to Le Châble- then cable car up.

Another vote for Flims, such an easy transfer I've easily done weekends there. Plenty of skiing at your standard. I would double check the height/time of year though. It's a real place as opposed to a French purpose built resort, that may or may not count for anything with you.

Thank you all. I was only thinking Geneva as we can fly there from our local airport as opposed to Manchester which we always seem to get delayed at and it’s just huge and hard work!. I will look at the train option. Will check all the webcams this year early April to gauge. Feb half term is also a possibility but Easter would just work better with work deadlines.

Snow cover can vary so much from year to year OP, so rather than looking at the webcams this April, you need to look at snow fall data for April over the past eg 10 years.

Generally speaking you need plenty of skiing over 2000m and higher with north-facing slopes, and I would be looking for a resort where accommodation is no lower than 2000m. In France (for me, anyway) that generally means Tignes or Val Thorens at Easter. We've stayed at Tignes numerous times over Easter and each year has been slightly different, although you can always find plenty of good snow to ski on. Some years have been very soft and chopped up into resort level in the afternoons and we've gone no lower than 2000m; other years have been fantastic with snow fall and consistently cold weather meaning we've skied on good snow down to 1550m. You take your chances at Easter but less so in a high altitude resort - basically, if the snow isn't good there, you can console yourself it will be worse elsewhere

I agree with @stringbean (with the caveat snow seems to have been generally better 10 years ago than now, when warm temps seem to happen throughout winter sadly).

At Easter Val Thorens or Tignes/VDI are good bets. Sure you are paying a lot for a ski area you won’t use to the full but they are most reliable late season.

I also wouldn’t recommend Avoriaz - Easter is too late and earlier in season I think it’s far too busy for low intermediates/novices with some tricky runs that impede your travelling around the area.

Not Chamonix either, for reasons explained.

I agree with the suggestion of Switzerland - far less busy and some lovely resorts - but it’s fair to say it does cost a bit more for everything.

For smaller resorts Snowheads is a good bet for advice. Someone has always been and has an in depth knowledge. If they don’t agree, they will have another to recommend!
