Nervous adult recommendations?

Tried once approx 10 years ago in Scandì - was a bit rubbish but just about managed a plough! Have a big fear of going down hills at speed but determined to conquer it - as an older beginner with the option (and preference) of avoiding school hols - any recommendations gratefully received.
would be for myself and equally unfit DH….

Get the right instructor. Someone who is experienced enough to have taught numerous nervous beginners, and someone who understands that people have different mental approaches and different body mechanics according to their age. If you can afford it go for private lessons.

So what you want is an experienced instructor rather than one of the newer gap-year instructors who only did their Level 1 training in November and who thinks that everyone is 18 years old, super supple, fearless and indestructable.

Add in the language factor if you are more comfortable with an English-speaking instructor (assuming that this is your preferred language), and while there might be far fewer British instructors in Europe now following Brexit, there are plenty of Austrian and Scandinavian instructors with excellent English.

Do try to get as fit as possible beforehand and do lots of stretching.

As for destinations, anywhere in Austria is fine (avoiding the really big or really expensive resorts like St Anton or Kitzbuhel) - or perhaps Norway or Sweden if you're not too concerned about night life.

Somewhere with loooooong cruisey blues. DH is a nervous skier, so I posted on Snowheads asking about where would give us those. We got a fairly convincing response of Paradiski (Les Arcs/La Plagne). We went for LA, and it did wonders for DHs confidence.

I agree with @Havanananana that you want to get a mature instructor. Have a private lesson rather than a group. DH and I shared a private instructor when we learned, which worked well. Ours was Dutch, but his English was excellent.
