Austrian ski hotels with childcare/ resorts with wraparound ski school

Hoping for any helpful leads/ advice.

Keen to ski Xmas week this year, ideally a high-up Austrian resort (Obergurgl, Ischgl
Kitzbuhel, Solden etc although possibly also similarly high Italian resorts like Cervinia).

Will be me, DH and DS 7 + 4 plus a variety of in-laws and adult siblings+partners. We are looking for a hotel rather than chalet or apartment as some of the party will be joining on the 26th for a shorter break as have to stay in the UK for actual Xmas day.
This also cuts our AI package options like Club Med.

I’m hoping to find a kinder-hotel or similar hotel with a kids club which care provide entertain during dinner or in afternoons if full time ski school is too much for DS4. We have stayed in a lovely one in Hintertux the last few years but fancied a bit of a change of resort this year. Struggling to find similar hotels in a high enough resort to be a snow-sure in December.

Also open to staying in a hotel without a kids club if anyone has any leads in ski schools in those resorts which offer wrap-around (drop off 8/9am for play before ski lessons and provision of lunch/ afternoon play for DC4). Otherwise I find you get about 2 hours skiing done a day….

All help appreciated!

Schloss Rosenegg in Fieberbrun was fab ( Crystal ski)
My kids are older so didn't pay much attention to childcare options but there definitely was childcare options

We didn't ski with kids so not sure how good it is but Hotel Bellevue in Obergurgl had a free kids' club

I'm in Cervinia this week with my 7 and 5 year old. They are in the Mini Club Fiocco di Neve Cervinia and the Cervinia Ski School picks them up for lessons in the morning then brings them back to the Mini Club for lunch and play in the afternoon. I am managing about 6 hours skiing a day which is all my knees can manage anyway.
It's not a very pretty town but lots of nice hotels close to the ski lifts and only 2.5 hours from Milan and about 2 hours from Geneva. Huge ski area and very snow sure - it's been snowing yesterday and today and my guide says it's pretty good from first week of December to mid-April.

we are considering Rosenegg in Fieberbrunn, but are worried it is too far removed from saalbach/Hglemm so by the time we had got over there it would be time to come back. Typopro - did you find this? We have older kids who are good skiers and they would be disappointed if they just skied fieberbrunn all day

typopro · 28/03/2023 07:36

@samG76 it's a small resort but connected to the rest of the Saalbach/Himterglenn region. We are moderate skiers and our children are beginners, so we found it sufficient. I guess if you were looking for a wide variety of runs it might involve a bit of faff.

However the resort was fab. Couldn't fault the staff at the hotel or the ski school/boot hire and the biggest draw for us is that there were no queues. Miles of fresh piste

@samG76 If you are keen on Saalbach-Hinterglemm, the Ellmauhof Kinderhotel always gets good reviews on Snowheads (which is also a good forum to look at for all things skiing).

@ChocoMarmalade please can I ask where you’re staying and would you recommend it? Interested in cervinia next year and was wondering what childcare options there were. Thanks!

Hotel bellevue / austria in obergurgl was great last year, the kids clubs was on request rather than a thriving space with lots of other children to play with but mine loved having the run of the space. Great pool/ spa facilities. Amazing food and separate kids menu with slightly earlier supper times if needed. No babysitting/ listening service in the rooms though which was the only issue. Also the local kids ski school only does full days which is limiting. So we did a few full days of ski school for the children and then a couple of days off skiing as a family/ swimming/ sledging.

We stayed in Lohmann in Obergurgl in April last year. It was functional and def had a kids' club.

Not Austria, but Evolution2 in Arc 1950 offer care from 0830 - 1730.

@ChocoMarmalade who did you book with? Really interested in the childcare option you’ve described, but google has let me down.
