Best ski goggles to prevent migraines.

My 14 year old son gets migraines often triggered by the sun. He’s going skiing in April. His teacher said I can buy goggles that protect his eyes from the sun/snow.
having researched online, I haven’t a clue, it’s overwhelming. I don’t want to spend a fortune as he may only go once.
Any tips on where to look online, or what colour would prevent the migraines please?

Can you get to a decathlon? Or Tresspass often has goggles in the sales. It is worth trying some on if you can, to see whether he is adult or child size

he should also take a pair of sunglasses to have when outside and not skiing - at lunch for example

Thank you, yes we have a Trespass nearby!

Yes I did think he may need something protecting his eyes all the time.

Ski goggles and sunglasses come in categories determined by how much light they let through. For skiing sunglasses must be cat 3 and preferably 4. Fashion hangover-hiding glasses are often only cat 2, but most proper anti-UV sunglass are 3. Goggles are normally 3 because you also wear them when the weather is bad. If you can afford it, look at transition goggle lenses. They won't strain his eyes when the weather is bad and will block most light when the sun comes out. I think they start at about £80 in decathlon.

I got an outdoor master pair for my son on Amazon. They kit the US ski team and prices start at £30-40. He is used to Oakleys at a much higher price point but he really likes these.
I would go for a mixed sun/snow goggle with a VLT of around 15% which is a good all round. You can get ones with lower VLT (or lenses to switch) if you are particularly worried about sunny days wrt his migraines.

Quite a good chart but scroll down to the snow goggles bit for the VLT numbers.
