Anyone done a summer alpine holiday??!

I am contemplating a summer holiday to the Alps with dh and 2ds (they will be 3 years, and 1 year).

Has anyone done one? Are they any good or will it be dire for the kids (and therefore all of us!)? We would get some form of childcare I think.

Thanks.

We went Leysin last summer and it is lovely there. Little village about an hour and half from Geneva by train with swimming pool, ice rink, lots of walks, riding etc. The lovely apartment details are below.

It sleeps up to six people (plus cot) in three bedrooms and is within easy reach of the ski slopes and international ski school as well as village centre with shops, restaurants etc.

Hope that helps!

Been to chamonix in the summer - completely gorgeous. Chamonix is a busy ski resort - but just as busy in the summer as winter, in a good way if you see what I mean. Couldn't recommend it more!

Chamonix is a proper town, not just a ski resort so doesn't have that 'temporary' feel. Lots of French on holiday, lots of Italians, a few Americans, some English but not too many Germans/Austrians (!).

It's also a really short drive from the airport, and if you want to go to Italy/Switzerland it's on the border.

Les Gets is good for a smaller much more villagey feel, but busy with the mountain bikers.

Have a tip top time, beats holiday with the in-laws this year...

Esprit do summer alpine holidays and if you used them all the staff would be English. I've not been with them in the summer.

I have camped in Chamonix and Zermatt as well as a few smaller places in the summer and always had a great time. Lots of walking, sunshine and good food.

Had a lovely few days in Gstaad once (stayed at the Grand Chalet here which is rather amazing (if you fancy spending money). I don't think the kids would be bored on an Alpine holiday due to amazing space to run around, cable cars, swiss chocolates

I lived in Switzerland for years and hated it but summer in the Alps made it (almost) worth it.

ScienceTeacher - where exactly did you go in Vermont? It sounds wonderful, and perhaps a destination we'd consider....
