Club Med, MW, or Neilson for ski end January, no kids?

Just looking at ski holidays for end January/beginning Feb. We're always last minute.
This time there will be just the two of us so looking to go with a company.
We're looking at Club Med Alp D'Huez and wondering if anybody has been this season? Also open to trying other companies.
No kids coming with us but do not mind if they are in hotel.

Any suggestions welcome. Looking to go from London airports or maybe even drive.

Are you set on going with one of the big operators? if there's just you as a couple will you use all the services of the "club" type operations?
When
DH and I go on our own we tend to choose destinations that might not work with the kids, and stay in hotels so we can eat at different local places. I'd rather spend on a boutique-y hotel which the Dc wouldn't appreciate than stay in the big club type places. But appreciate that's not everyone's view.

Snow in many areas in very poor this year (have just been in Megeve, had to drive to Contamines and Courmayeur to get decent skiing, then dropped a DC in Morzine two days ago which looked like it was an early day in May. ). So you have the advantage of knowing you need to choose something snow-sure....but these places are getting booked up.

Why not DIY?

e.g. Ryanair have Stansted - Salzburg for £42 return (out on 28/1 and back on 4/2). Look at Bergfex or the tourist office sites for the latest snow reports and just go wherever the snow is. Use the usual Booking sites for hotels and apartments. €2,000-€3,000 for a week will get some very good accommodation for 2. There are plenty of resorts within 90 mins of Salzburg airport, with easy transfers by train, bus or shared taxi.

Have always done DIY...for Canada, NZ, Japan, and Europe.
However, this time since it is the first time just the two of us we decided to maybe try a company.
We have just booked with Neilson for Val D'Isere in 3 weeks time.
Hopefully will have a good dump of snow by then 😊

We have always DIY'd all over the world for our ski holidays and have stayed in quite a few 'boutique' places even with the kids.
However like I mentioned we wanted to mix it up a bit and try something different.

Val D'Isere is lovely, I'm sure you'll have a great time.

We are back out to Porte du Soleil this Saturday for three days and braced for problems getting to snow. BUT four days in the Dolomites at the end of the month which is looking rather lovely, so I can hardly complain.

Have a fab time. I think there is snow coming and the Dolomites are looking good.
Not been to Val d'Isere so looking forward to it. Apart from the skiing I'm planning on it being a lazy week.

Val d’Isere is fabulous skiing, but very expensive at 12 euros a beer and 5 euros a coffee. Get over to Tignes, linked by lift and there’s the snow sure glacier.

We're already planning on skiing over to Tignes and hoping to pretty much cover most of the ski area. Having skied in Japan, NZ, and Switzerland, 12 euros for a beer is doable. Never found apres-ski cheap anywhere unless you manage to get back in time for Happy Hour.

I’m off to Val D’Isere at the end of January with my OH, we’ve been loads of times before tho.

I’d split your days up so you do Solaise side one day, Bellvarde side the next (make sure you go to the Follie Douce for drinks and entertainment!!) and then do Bellvarde side and over to Tignes one day then choose where you want to go for the next couple of days.

There’s loads of snow there.

Good luck having a quiet time, Val is buzzing and apres ski is fab!!

Our hotel has a ski lift straight to FD...DC not happy as they're not skiing with bank of mum& dad this year. 😂
We are not looking for a quiet time.
Thank you for all the info. Shall make notes x

We like ClubMed because virtually everything is included so no need to spend a fortune on drinks and meals on the pistes. We are going to ClubMed Serre Chevalier in Feb, having been there twice. DH, me, two adult DSs and 6 year old DGS.
We have skied several times at Alpe D’huez; as far as I remember the ClubMed is in a good position.

turkeyboots · 17/01/2023 07:08

When I can ski without DC again I'm going here www.forsthofgut.at

For now i just admire it from Instagram. I love Club Med for making family skiing easy though.

Goawayangryman · 17/01/2023 08:10

@turkeyboots, the advertising algorithm keeps suggesting that place to me too, it looks amazing but totally beyond my budget. Or, I might have looked at its website once upon a time when I was richer. I like that area. Maybe when the kids have left home!

skilikeagirl · 17/01/2023 10:33

Loads of snow in the PDS right now, even down in the villages. Sure @WellWoman is making the most of it!

WellWoman · 17/01/2023 11:47

I am !
Been all over the Les Gets domain this morning, just come back to the village for lunch (flying back early this evening and the snow is pounding down so we are a bit anxious to leave plenty of time to get back to Cointrin)

astarsheis · 17/01/2023 14:15

Good to see you're enjoying the fresh snow there @WellWoman
We leave for Val D"Isere on the 5th. Getting very excited now.

Might not be a bad option to go via a package as you are so close to your holidays date. Most accommodation would already be fully booked out if you start looking independently.

TrickyD · 17/01/2023 14:25

Ski-line have some good offers for the end of the month. Mainly catered chalets. We have used them many times and booked our forthcoming ClubMed trip with them.
Phone no 0208 313 3999

We usually ask to speak to Mal Sergeant who is particularly knowledgeble and helpful.

WellWoman · 17/01/2023 16:39

Will keep a note of your guy at Skiline @TrickyD

Thanks for sharing.
We have had to tear ourselves away from the snow but are very lucky to have more soon - we are out to Sella Ronda in a couple of weeks.
PDS is going to be lovely for the next 2 or 3 weeks for anyone
headed there
