Family of 5. We’re beginner skiiers and snowboarders! Somewhere easy who can cater for gluten free.

Thank you!

I've been to Hemsdel it had a brilliant atmosphere.

Hemsedal is nice - but bloody cold in December/January. It was so cold when we were there (minus 25C) that skiing was out of the question and we went for walks through the forest, husky dog sledding and generally relaxed rather than having a "traditional" ski resort holiday.

I've no idea about the availability of gluten-free food, but be aware that much of the accommodation is self-catering - and that food and especially drink is very expensive.

For families with small children, Norway has a great reputation for good facilities, easy pistes and child-friendly ski schools (with plenty of English-speaking instructors). It might be a bit too quiet for a family with teenagers or for anyone who wants a bit of apres ski with cheesy Europop music and cheap-ish food and drinks. For that you'll need to go to Andorra, Austria, Italy or maybe Bulgaria.

Hemsedal and Trysil are both good options. You can of course buy gluten free food in Norway but options in resort might be fairly limited, so you may want to stock up en route. I don’t really remember specifically seeing gluten free food at restaurants but I also wasn’t looking for it…
Generally I would say Norway is fantastic for beginners, the slopes are gentle and the ski instructors are lovely.
