How do I wear these?!

Hi all! Please help - I'm about to go on my first ski trip in Feb and have bought this ski outfit from Vinted. It's great and I love it but I can't work out how the sallopettes are supposed to be worn?

It makes sense that the stirrup goes around the foot and the trouser is tucked into the boot but I can't find many of those styles around! (If any). Just to add the trousers are thick and waterproof so whilst they look different to traditional sallopettes I don't think they can be worn as under leggings?

Does anyone have ski trousers like these and can enlighten me?

Thanks in advance!

They look like racing pants to me - the chic French love these. V snug, fitted and insulated.

BastardtheCat · 29/12/2022 00:30

I'd prefer ones that went over my boots - ski boots are very tight so the added layer of trousers may hurt you.

I have some ski pants like that but they’re really only suitable for cross country and I wouldn’t recommend for a first ski trip.

You really need to get a pair with internal elastic gators with boot clips and bottoms that can be worn over your boot. Otherwise you’re going to have very wet feet.

Rainbowshit · 29/12/2022 00:47

Mmm. They're fashion ski pants. I wouldn't wear these as you'll probably end up with bruising on your legs. You'd be better with ski trousers where you they sit outside the boots.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/12/2022 01:15

Agree with all the above. For beginner downhill skiing, you really want trousers with a higher rise up the back, and shoulder straps, to keep snow from going down your trousers when you fall (combined with a jacket with a snow skirt).

mackthepony · 29/12/2022 01:17

They tuck into the ski boot.

Are you a really good skier?

Otherwise as pp's said you'd be better off with the looser ones that cover the ski boot

fallfallfall · 29/12/2022 01:22

depends on where you are skiing and the ski conditions.

since you suggest you're new to skiing these will be fine as it's unlikely you will be going through 2ft deep powder.
2ft deep powder gets into the boots and you end up with damp freezing feet.

@fallfallfall are you forgetting that most beginners spend 50% of their time on their arse?! 😂. Even without a foray into the drifts at the side of the nursery slope there is no way a beginner won’t be soaked after an hour in these

milkshake05 · 29/12/2022 01:44

Thanks everyone! It was the coat that they came with that I really wanted anyway so I’ll pick up some normal over the boot sallopettes after reading all of your helpful replies!

Definitely get some salopettes. Don't tuck trousers into your boots. Decathlon is a good place to get them.

Havanananana · 29/12/2022 18:48

Nothing goes into your ski boots except your feet and the ski socks. No trousers, sallopettes or anything else otherwise you risk blisters, bruises and worse. These pants are not suitable for skiing - they're the sort of things that beautiful young things wear to sit in deckchairs in the sun while they sip champagne and stroke their little lap dogs.

LIZS · 29/12/2022 18:53

They won't be waterproof and beginners tend to spend time falling over in snow. You may also be grateful for the padding of ski trousers!

Yep. My first ski trip, first time off the nursery slope and my instructor says 'follow me' and promptly goes slightly off piste (because he loves powder), resulting in me half submerged in about 3 feet of snow. He was suitably apologetic and kept me to groomed pistes for the rest of our time together.

Then there was the time my googles streamed up and I couldn't get them up, so I opted to pitch into a high drift to the side so I wouldn't crash. Bought a helmet with an attached visit with that incident in mind after that.

Over boots salopettes definitely.

milkshake05 · 30/12/2022 00:06

I bought some white over the boot traditional Sallopettes last night after everyone’s great advice.

I will have had two ski lessons a week for two months before we go so will hopefully try to keep the falling over to a minimum (fingers crossed anyway!! 😂)

Fab! That'll give you a good foundation! Especially as it'll always be fresh in your mind. Where are you learning?

Fraaahnces · 30/12/2022 06:42

Just grab some plain black salopettes from ASOS or Decathlon and you’ll be fine

milkshake05 · 30/12/2022 18:57

I’m hoping so - if even to keep up with the 6 yo and 11 yo I’ve been taking lessons at the chill factor.

Ah yes I remember wearing this kind of thing in the 80s as a kid. Do not recommend.
