Got a really good deal with Crystal for Jan 24, Bardonecchia Campo Smith apartments 7 nights 2 adults 2 children, flights to Turin, transfers, luggage... And also a ski bundle including ski school for 3 hours x 5 days, lift pass, equipment & helmets for the 2 dc for 2.5k... Should we book?!!!! DH & I undecided about skiing so a nice village with good restaurants is an absolute must. Quite excited, agent holding it for me but thought I'd ask mumsnet first!!

I would say big yes. They have had snow already and conditions look good right now. Lots of good restaurants, its more of a ski town than village. Good 100km ski area, good ski school, friendly locals, easy transfer. Some varied runs some through trees others higher up at Jafferau. Only downsides are the lifts a bit old and the ski area is in two parts but has a regular bus between 2 only 10 mins. Campo Smith right by the lifts, the apartments may or not be slightly dated interiors (depends which one you get)

@SkiYetiMagic my dc are complete beginners so do you think the ski school will be good? It's included in the package bundle with the equipment & ski hire..! It's for the dc , DH & I may do 3 mornings of lessons, we're ski novices! I want a pretty village!

@Skiingonagreen Yes, when I went there 2 of our group were beginners and they loved the instructors at the ski school there. It's a good place for learning both with good ski school and suitable runs. Re a pretty village, the main street is very pretty with lots of very old buildings heading up the hill to a church and small square. There are a lot of pines around the town too.

Ski famille have some even better deals!

Skiingonagreen · 19/12/2022 22:07

@SkiYetiMagic I think we're going to go for it? Do you think there will be much for the dc aged 9 & 10 to do after ski school e.g sledding, ice skating etc?

@Skiingonagreen please report back if you do go. We’re booked for February half term (different accommodation)

Radiatorvalves · 19/12/2022 22:13

Enjoy! Only ever been there in the summer. DS was 3 at the time and the Italians loved him… he had his first pizza there and ate 3/4 of it! Still loves pizza….

Skiingonagreen · 19/12/2022 22:25

@Muchtoomuchtodo it's actually for Jan 2024! Want to book early as I see prices are high for 2023. Will you report back? I'm afraid there won't be much after ski school for the girls.. DH & I non skiers, too nervous to try it out!

@Radiatorvalves are the restaurants good & more importantly good value? Is it a pretty town? That's so cute!

@Skiingonagreen sorry! I didn’t spot the 24 part!
wow! 2024 holidays are on sale very early. I’ll let you know how we get on but it won’t be until the end of February (Welsh half term).

ShirleyValentin3 · 20/12/2022 08:10

I went as a day trip (staying in Turin) a few years ago and we loved the town. It's very pretty and there are quite a few nice bars and restaurants.

Can't comment on the skiing side, but took 2 DC (7 & 13) and they had a great day out. I don't recall there being loads to do for them, but they were so happy to take it all in and play in the snow. I'm sure after a day skiing they'll be too shattered to do much else!

Hope you have a fab time 😆

Radiatorvalves · 20/12/2022 08:57

It was ages ago, but I remember the town being nice (for an out of season ski resort), and incredibly good value. Pizza was about 3€.

to be honest I think that’s an Italian thing. We had a day in Montgenèvre last year. A round of coffee for 5 was about €18, whereas over the hill in Italy we paid €9.50 and the cappuccino was the best I’ve had.

Great! Thanks so much, there's a free child's place with this one so wanted to book early!

@ShirleyValentin3 &@Radiatorvalves that sounds perfect. It's within the budget, ski school & slopes outside the door & the ski bundle & lessons organised. I don't think we could get a better deal! Going to book!

@Skiingonagreen It will be lovely for kids that age. I dont remember there being an ice rink although I may have missed it. There is an alpine roller coaster they will love. Very close to Campo. Enjoy!

Skiingonagreen · 20/12/2022 10:30

Booked! Very excited! Thanks everyone! @SkiYetiMagic that sounds great!

Enjoy! Maybe consider a couple of trips to snow dome to get in the mood!
