Read lots about it but would love to hear from anyone that has actually ski'd there.
Family of four, range of abilities and only ever been to France.
Would you recommend it?
if so where to stay?!

Thank you !

Its worth also checking on Snowheads forum trip reports. I haven't stayed there but have done some of the area skiing over from Sauze d'Oulx so cant comment on accommodation or village life. Skiing wise locally its a large open ski area with a variety of runs but pretty open in the event of bad weather. There is a collection or eating drinking places at the bottom of the slopes. Its part of the wider milkyway which extends over to France although the whole area can suffer from poor snow cover. A gondola at the south end of the resort takes you up to the Sansicaro sector and Sauz which is have tree lined runs. There was an earlier thread about Sauze and the evil green from the top of this lift down.
I'm not particularly a fan of purpose built resorts but if snow cover is good it should be a good place to go.

It is quite like some of the French purpose-built resorts but in Italy. I don't think it's as pretty as a lot of other Italian resorts, but it's high up, convenient, lots for kids to do and pretty cheap. Large ski area, quieter than neighbouring Sauze but links to it. It's a good option for a family and your money will go a lot further than in the big french resorts for sure! I prefer Claviere and Montgenevre in this ski area but Sestriere is prob most practical for a family. Skiing is really varied something for all abilities and Italian ski schools are great.

Not stayed in Sestriere, but have stayed in Sauze loads of times so I know the area.

We typically do 1 or 2 days in Sestriere, 2 or 3 in Sansicario and the rest in Sauze. I prefer the skiing in Sauze - and the on-mountain restaurants too. But there's plenty of good skiing in the region and good for a range of abilities.

I'd rather stay in Sauze as it's a lovely little town.

There is SO MUCH SNOW there at the moment! The conditions are great. When are you thinking of going?
