Calling Italy Experts

For the first time next year I will have to ski the dreaded half term week. I am thinking of Italy, (although open to any other countries) and a ski area within 2 hours of an airport. I think I will hire a car and book a village somewhere out of resort and then just drive to the lift each day. So maybe somewhere near Sestriere for example. I do not know Italy well at all (haven't skied here for 30 plus years!) so any recommendations would be really great. We are all fairly experienced skiers but prefer cruisy reds and blues and not worried about night life just perhaps a nice restaurant or two. Would any of you good people have any recommendations please?

Kronplatz/Plan de Corones is a nice, small area and there are several villages to choose from (Bruneck, Olang, Riscone etc) www.kronplatz.com/en/the-kronplatz/skilifts-slopes

We've skiied in the Dolomites a lot. Have a look at Val di Fassa. We stay in Alba di Canazei. Corvara and Arabba are lovely too.

Fly to Turin or Milan and go to Montgenevre. I know it's in France, but it's still not busy in half term and there's loads of cruisy skiing.

I've skied Sestriere and other Milky Way resorts at half term. They're not too bad mid week, although the Turin locals flock at the weekends. Montgenevre is a good suggestion.

We ski at Madonna di Campiglio in the Dolomites. We usually fly to Milan but Treviso also close. Sometimes we fly a day earlier to Bologna; it's only an extra 30mins and is often cheaper. Plus a fabulous city.

I would second Kronplatz for wide cruisy red and blue runs staying in San Vigilio. It is a quiet traditional resort and it's very very picturesque. If you are hiring a car it works best flying to Innsbruck, Austria and driving down.
I would choose Claviere or Montgenevre (for Via Lattea area) over Sauze/Sestriere although Sauze/Sestriere prob better value.
There's also Monterosa area which has Champoluc, Gressoney and Alagna. Amazing intermediate skiing here on mostly reds and not too busy. Fly to Milan for Alagna or Turin/Milan for other resorts.

Aosta Valley is all beautiful and all within easy reach of Milan.
