We're looking at taking our DS next season (when he'll be 18 mths old)... We were looking at Chamonix (short transfer times), but getting the right place to stay is more important!!

I don't need to use childcare as I'm only a novice boarder and granny is coming too as a non-skier so we will share care between us all. Can anyone suggest a self catering chalet suitable for a)small children b) non-skiers c)good access to decent slopes for my DH and our friends, and finally d) can sleep around 10 people!!! Not asking too much...

Alternative suggestions to SC accommodation also welcome...

Hi,

We went to the Tyrol region of Austria. We hired an appartment just off the piste and it was great.
Transfer times are approx. 1 hour from Salzburg or Innsbruck.
Austrians are extremely friendly and almost all speak english.

Good luck!

I love Chamonix!!! I go out twice a year! We've just come back from a holiday with our 14 month dd. I bought an apartment out there a few years ago - it's in the centre of chamonix and the bus stop for all the slopes is at the entrance to the apartment. I rent it out for £400 per week but I'm sorry it only sleeps 8!! I would thoroughly recommend going to Le Tour ski piste in Chamonix - there is a green and blue slope at the bottom that costs 9 euros for the day so you can board there happily and cheaply whilst improving. At the bottom there's a liitle open air cafe and lots of children mess around the bottom of the slope on their sledges for free.

Have a look at bigfoot or agency de drus bu googling them. Also look at the site www.chamonet.com for accomodation links.

Chamonix and good access to the slopes is a contradiction. Slopes in Chamonix are mostly at least a bus-ride away and the buses are normally packed.

If you've a car, then it's more convenient, but you still need to travel every day.

We stayed in a brillint chalet in Les Houches some years ago (more convenient for much of the skiing than Chamonix itself), but sorry - don't recall the name!
