Bardonecchia

Hello

We are thinking of going to Bardonecchia in Italy next year.

I like skiing a mixture of wide cruising piste and some tree lined routes but nothing requiring lots of tight turns due to a knee injury.

Please can anyone who has skied there let me know what the pistes are actually like?

I don’t ski off piste.

Also are you required to do a lot of walking in ski boots to move between ski areas?

I am going with a group of people who are really keen to go there but I need to work out if I will cope.

Many thanks

Not a very popular resort then!

Not necessarily, but rather your expectations of reply time are a bit optimistic for a relatively quiet board! While you are waiting you might try snowheads. There are many more active posters at any one time (and more very well travelled skiers).

I'll follow this with interest as I was looking at Bardoneccia for this coming winter before we booked Austria instead.

There seemed to be a need for a ski bus from the accommodation wherever I looked, which is something we'd rather not do. Happy to hear otherwise though.

Many thanks both

I've been to Bardonecchia. I'm very fond of it as a ski town and the runs are quite good although its not a huge area, I think it's around 100kms.

The skiing is in two seperate areas, Jafferau and then the slopes around Campo Smith. To get between the 2 areas you need to get a connecting bus which only takes ten mins or so and they run regularly all day. The Campo Smith area has some lovely runs through the trees mainly easy reds. I remember a long button though so if you dont like button lifts this may not be the place for you. On the other side, Jafferau has some wider reds with some good views.
We went here with some beginners and they loved the runs and the friendly ski school at Campo Smith.

The resort has a big main street with some great restaurants and shops. Locals are friendly, food is cheap and I dont remember ever queing for a lift.

Location wise I would recommend somewhere between town and Campo Smith. There is also Arnauds/Melezet areas which are brilliant locations for the skiing but a little further to walk for town. If you stay in Jaffrau its quite a way off from the town as there is a big road between you.

Its a really good resort for easy transfers or train.

Hope this help! I also love Bardonecchia in the summer but thats another story....

Thanks @SkiYetiMagic

It sounds great. I appreciate you taking the time. I always struggle to pick accommodation because I'm worried about being miles away, so you've been really helpful.

" That" was meant to say "thanks "
