What to wear 'Après ski'

Hello lovely Mumsnetters.
My 15 year old daughter is going on school
Ski trip to Madonna Di Campiglio; they leave 9th April.

I have never been skiing in Italy and never so late in the season.
What do 15 year olds wear 'après ski', especially keen to understand footwear.
Thank you for helping me combat the eye rolling and dramatic sighs...

Hiking type trainers with decent grip on the sole are good footwear for ski towns late in the season. Otherwise jeans and jumpers/hoodies… possibly not really a lot different to what she’d wear at home that late in the season. Wouldn’t bother with snow boots unless the school recommends or there is a huge dump of snow and a cold snap forecast!

I agree with pp

Thank you both so much.

I will show your replies to my 'dear' teen 😀

What does she want to wear?

Wnkingawalrus · 30/03/2022 10:05

I’ve not been that late. I’d probably go for shorter snow type boots (I have a pair of ankle boot Sorrels) with jeans and sweaters. It will still get cold once the sun goes down. I’m assuming at that age their not allowed “out our” so don’t need to worry so much about overheating in a sweaty bar.

I was in Madonna Di Campiglio a few weeks ago - their main customer base is Russians - who obviously are not able to travel at moment so the resort is only about 50% capacity and reasonably quiet.

The apres ski is not like the big party reports in France - its quite quiet - jeans / top / hoodie will be fine.

There wasn't a lot of snow once of the slopes unless they get more in next few days.

@DistrictCommissioner
She wants to wear whatever is appropriate for the late season. She (nor I) have been to Italy skiing and never so late in the season (we are Feb and Austria always).

Ah okay - the ‘dear’ teen reference made it sound like you were in conflict about what she should wear.

just looked at the webcams this morning - lots of new snow!

We've skied in Italy at Easter and had thick snow and ice on all the pavements. I would also guess there will be some kind of non-skiing snow activity like sledging on a school trip or at least snowball fights... So I would take whatever snow footwear she normally wears on ski holidays. She probably also needs --wants- some kind of impractical fashion shoe/clothes that will fall apart at the first sign of snow to wear indoors.

The practical answer is she will definitely still need some kind of practical grippy snow boot/trainer, even if it is just for messing around in the snow. Check the weather at the time to see how warm her clothes need to be. We often go away for the last week of the season and we've had everything from minus temperatures and blizzards to sitting in the sun at 20C in the same resort.

The teenage answer is ask her friends what they are taking. Mine are in their 20s now but when they were that age, there was a fad for PJ bottoms and hoodies, and a fashion for animal onesies at festivals and for après ski Confused

Thanks @chesirecat99. Good to hear your varied experiences at Easter in Italy.
