Taking 12 year old child who has only had one vaccination

Hi there
Hoping someone might have advice for me as going around in circles on the government website :)
We are going skiing in France (via Geneva airport) in a couple of weeks time and one of my children has only had 1 vaccination so far. Child is 12 but had covid just as their second jab was due.....hence, hasn't had second jab.
Does anyone know what I need to have i.e. child counts as unvaccinated but need proof of positive covid PCR?
Many thanks in advance if anyone else has travelled to France and/or Switzerland recently and has advice

I have a similar situation, my child has just turned 12 so won't be able to be fully vaccinated by the Easter holidays.

From what I can work out, they need either a PCR up to 72 hours before travel or a LF 48 hours before travel. You can also provide proof of previous covid infection but I'm not sure how you go about getting that so I think I'm just going to pay for a lateral flow test before travel.

Switzerland because they are under 17 it’s not an issue I think. France I’m not sure.

DavidBowiesEyeMakeUpArtist · 17/03/2022 20:27

Agree - seems not to be an issue if travelling with fully vaccinated parents but then other info says “PCR or other test (not LFT) 48 or 72 beforehand”

I will check again and see - easing of restrictions came into play this week in France to add to confusion 😉

And thanks for responses 😊

I feel so out of it with regards travelling! It’s been so long!!! 😂😂

“PCR or other test (not LFT) 48 or 72 beforehand” is the right approach for the 12 yr olds. We are in the same boat. Taking a stash of PCR testing kits with us also.
We've also downloaded the TousAntiCovid app.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 24/03/2022 07:06

We are in the same boat. DS has had one jab but not old enough to have had both as only turned 12 2 weeks ago.
DH thinks this is fine. I think he needs to have negative LFT proof - fit to fly. Really confusing as elsewhere it says if they are travelling with vaccinated adults they don’t need it.

We are leaving on Saturday.

You don’t need the Pass Sanitaire anymore

Snoopsnoggysnog · 24/03/2022 07:25

@DavidBowiesEyeMakeUpArtist are you already there or did you find out any more info?
I think I’m just going to get the LFT fit to fly done for the DC to be on the safe side.

DavidBowiesEyeMakeUpArtist · 24/03/2022 07:55

I didn’t find much more - quite confusing tbh. Possibly I could (if I’d been more organised!) have had my son’s NHS account linked to mine to demonstrate his one vaccination and then recovery from Covid. But as I haven’t, I have a fit to fly test booked for him. Tbh, I think that even if I had his info digitally, I reckon I’d have ended up doing then test anyway just to be in the safe side as I’m not convinced that evidence would have been accepted.

I’m able to do the antigen one for where we’re going but I really think he will just stroll in with his vaccinated parents and nobody will check anything! 😂😂 Or, rather, I hope that is the case anyway 😂😂

I will update this thread after the journey in so check back on Sunday evening if that helps? 😊

Thank you

DH reckons fit to fly is not needed. We are leaving on Saturday and we have to upload the docs to eurotunnel in advance. You can do them 48 hours in advance so DH is going to do it today. If they get accepted I guess we are through.

DavidBowiesEyeMakeUpArtist · 24/03/2022 09:08

Totally agree re: confusing
One webpage will say children (under 18) travelling with fully vaccinated adults don’t need anything and then literally one click away, over 12 need evidence of negative test! Gah!
Have gone with cheaper antigen (only £30 in Boots) but it needs to be closer to the actual flight so it’s booked for Saturday which is a bit of a yikes!
Hope all goes well uploading for Eurostar 🤞🏼and have a nice holiday!

Thanks OP. Yes it’s super confusing. Have a nice holiday!

We were in the same position at February half term (well slightly different in that 12 yr old had only had 1 jab, no 2nd jab / recovery) going to France via Geneva (and to complicate matters, we went via Amsterdam!). We did an antigen LFT for her - which was about £20 a think (we were doing it for the rest of the family anyway) just to be on the safe side. We did get checked at Schipol and then at Geneva on the way home.

Thank you - that is what I have booked for Saturday so glad to hear it worked!

Many thanks!
