Les Arcs childcare info needed

Hi, we are looking at going to Les Arcs, staying in Bourg St Maurice at a self-catered place and taking the funicular/shuttles up the hill every day.

What we're looking for is a creche on the hill and will probably drop in and pick up or visit our daughter (aged 2) each day for lunch.

We've found a creche in Arcs 1800 called Pommes de Pin at Nova Residence and are interested, but can't find any reviews about it. Does anyone have experience with this place? I did read an unfavourable review about the La Cachette hotel and its creche so will steer clear of that place.

I know some package operators have childcare included but we are not interested in an all-inclusive holiday; we are not flying and are doing it on the cheap as experienced independent travellers with a non-fussy child who is quite adaptable for her age.

A nanny doesn't seem like an option for us, since we want to have our daughter on the hill so we can visit her, but won't have a room of our own on the hill.

Thanks for any and all info.

Hi - we are off to Les Arcs 1950 in Feb(infact are supposed to be there now but ill DH meant we had to postpone) - We are using Cariboo Club in 1950 but am not sure on how you can get to it from the funicular. We used Cariboo (combined with ski school) last year and it was good for our DD who was 3 at the time. HTH

Hi alp,

Thanks for the advice. Looks like Cariboo Club is quite expensive for under-3s - nearly triple what they charge for the regular kids' club for 3 and older. Looks like the Pommes de Pin/Club Mini thing at 1800 is more nursery-oriented.

We've just noticed that these nurseries require health certificates, medical records etc. What have you had to provide in the past?

Our little girl is just about to turn 2 - would you say we're better off waiting until she's 3 before we go on a ski trip at all?

Where else have you gone skiing that was good for kids? Ever been to the Massif Central (Mont Dore/Super Besse)?

Really appreciate your advice!

Hi there,

I have used the pomme de pin at Les Arc 1800 when my dd1 was 18months old. It was fantastic, purpose built large indoor play areas, separate sleeping rooms and lovely outdoor playarea. The staff were great 2 spoke english. We did need proof that she was well and she did need a bcg vacination. Have booked dd2 in for this feb half term. Hope this helps

feester,

That is really reassuring, thanks. I'm pretty sure all her jabs are up to date and we'll take the book with us.
