Where can we ski (Europe/US/Canada) with a child not vaccinated under 12? i.e. where could we go where we would

be able to enter restaurants
not have to quarantine on arrival
be able to use ski lifts

Italy

RebeccaCloud9 · 17/01/2022 15:29

Austria (under 12 exempt from COVID rules).

Skala123 · 17/01/2022 15:39

Switzerland - under 16s except also

CatherinedeBourgh · 17/01/2022 15:40

Switzerland. Under 12s exempt from everything, including wearing masks.

PickleSarnie · 20/01/2022 15:08

For France, under 12s take the status of their parents. So if vaccinated then they are fine. And they don't need to test before departure. My 11.5 year old is pretty tall so will probably have to ski with his passport to prove his age. And hopefully not drop it somewhere on a mountain.

I think they may need to wear a mask over 6 though. Although I'm doubtful that it'll be enforced much!

Confused sorry, are there actually, for real, any countries that DON'T treat under 12's as exempt from vaccination requirements?

(even Australia exempts U12's and we all know how batshit they are about FOLLOWING THE RULEZ)

You’d have problems in New York City actually. Unsure if that still applies in upstate NY but the skiing there is most definitely not worth travelling long haul for so I’m not going to even bother looking it up!

OP did you mean to say OVER 12? Just about everywhere except NYC is ok with an under 12 not being vaccinated.

Mama1Mia · 20/01/2022 22:15

So, for example for Whistler Canada unvaccinated under 12 years olds are allowed to enter the country but then would not be able to go to ski school or go to restaurants even with fully vaccinated adults, unless they have done a 14 day isolation.

Would you mind sharing where you found that info? I’ve only read this which only mention proof of vaccine for 12+ and makes no reference of quarantine for under 12s?

Thank you!

‘Unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated children under 12 must complete pre-entry, arrival and Day-8 tests, unless you have evidence that the child had a positive COVID-19 test taken 15 to 180 days (starting January 15, 2022, between 11 and 180 days) prior to arrival in Canada or the child is under 5 years of age.

For the next 14 days, the children must also:

not attend school, camp, team sports or daycare
not attend large or crowded settings, indoors or outdoors, such as an amusement park or sporting event
not take buses, subways, trains or other crowded transportation
not attend a setting where they may have contact with vulnerable people (e.g. long term care facility), including people who are immunocompromised, regardless of that person’s vaccination status or public health measures
stay in a place that allows the child to avoid all contact with any person that:
has an underlying medical condition that makes the person susceptible to complications related to COVID-19
has a compromised immune system from a medical condition or treatment; or
is 65 years of age or older
limit contact with others:
remain with their fully vaccinated parent or guardian, as much as possible
wear a mask and physically distance when in contact with non-household members
What your child can do for the next 14 days, as long as they wear a mask and physically distance from non-household members:

visit uncrowded public settings such as parks, beaches or going for a walk
gather with a small group of people from outside the household who are all known to be fully vaccinated
take uncrowded public transportation such as a taxi, or rideshare provided masks are worn at all times by all parties
accompany you to essential settings such as a grocery store or pharmacy
For 14 days following entry into Canada, you and any unvaccinated children under the age of 12 who travelled with you must:

maintain a list of the names and contact information of each person with whom the child came into close contact and a list of locations visited
wear a well-constructed, well-fitting mask in public settings’

I found the above info on the Government of Canada’s website .

@LakeShoreD so, my understanding is that although they would not need to quarantine they would not be able to go to restaurants, ski school or use ski lifts.

If under 12 you’re fine in virtually all Europe. Much more complicated in the US/Canada and hugely more complicated.

Morellocherries · 21/01/2022 17:57

I’m pretty sure that under 12s cannot currently enter Germany unless either resident or German citizens. I’m ok wrong about this, please let me know as my husband and our eldest wanted to visit relatives in half term.

LakeShoreD · 21/01/2022 17:59

Ahhh so it’s a Canadian thing and doesn’t come from Vail resorts who own Whistler! Good to know thank you as we’re going to book a NA trip for next season so will avoid Canada. But you’d be ok for most American resorts, including Vail which is hands down better than Whistler anyway, and you could also go anywhere in Europe. So tons of choice out there. Happy planning Grin

I've got lost of questions about covid and skiing in France at feb half term. Can anyone confirm the following please? My husband and I are fully vaccinated with double dose and booster. My son (14) is double vaccinated (not eligible for booster yet). My daughter (7) is not vaccinated and has just recovered from covid. 1) Do all of us need to do a pre-departure test or just over just over twelves? 2) is the NHS covid vaccination app accepted in resorts in place of the French the Pass Sanitaire? 3) is my son classed as fully vaccinated without the booster? 4) Where can I buy the authorised face masks required for lifts? I'm finding bits of info on various websites but nothing definitive about my 7 year old. Any help much appreciated!

Unvaccinated under 12s cannot do anything in NY so you want want to check out the ski resorts in US more widely as I'm not sure it's just restricted to NY.
Itsnotdeep · 23/01/2022 07:29

We looked at Whistler for Easter and it's impossible for under 12s and pretty much shut down for everyone else at the moment. Not sure when it might re-open, but you certainly can't book now.

I'm going for Norway I think.
