Self catering recommendations for the Alps

We are hoping to go in Feb, via the train with overnight stops in Paris on way out and back.

Haven’t been self catering for a while, and I’m looking for some recommendations of both resorts and specific accommodations. I’m optimistically hoping for that perfect place! Specific things we are looking for:

  • 30-40 mins from either Moutiers or Bourg
  • good self catering options eg a good shop and one or two good places for dinner
  • Good for beginners and intermediates
  • Good independent ski school eg Oxygene (I hope they have survived the pandemic!)
  • Not necessarily ski in ski out (I know, I can’t have it all) but a reasonable walk or bus to lifts. With 2 DC, although they will be older, the closer to the lifts the less whinging!

We went to Les Arcs 2000 catered in 2020 and I loved the resort, proximity to slopes etc. However I wonder if it’s very limited for self catering. We went to 1950 for one lunch and seemed like people had booked ahead, so is it just a case of being very organised?

Any help and advice would be wonderful.

Hi,
We always self-cater, The Pierre & Vacances or Radissons chains have well equipped apartments in Les Arcs 1850 and there's a well stocked supermarket in the village square as well as a variety of cafes and restaurants, plus it's all ski-in ski- out. They also have evening entertainments in the square each evening. It's also easy enough to get to as you're probably already aware if you've stayed in 2000.

How about La Rosiere? About 30 mins up the mountain from Bourg.
Great CGH residences which you could book through Peak Retreats if travelling under your own steam.

One of the residences (Lodge Hemera I think) is right oppos the main lift. Very family friendly resort with the benefit of skiing over to Italy.
