How to be more confident on the slopes?

So this will be my third time and I will be in ski school every morning (as in previous years) but i am always so nervous.
I love it and I love gentle skiing with the family but need to be more relaxed and less terrified.

I really want to improve as I did enjoy it so stopping isn't an option!! Any tips?!

HI yes practice, practice, practice! It might not be so much fun practicing but that's how you will boost your confidence and ultimately find your nerve, then you can start to really enjoy.
Chose some quiet runs so you aren't put off by other racing passed you. Everyone learns at a different pace and often people who start off well plateaux and the under dogs end up overtaking.

Exciting!

I'm a late learner, have skied for five years now starting in my thirties. Like you I had ski school the first couple if years but now I just practise on my own. My two top tips:

  • Carve out some time for just you to practise by yourself on easy slopes so you can perfect your turns and build your confidence without needing to keep up with someone.
  • Don't be daunted by going on the big and more difficult slopes regularly. I do this with DH who is a fantastic skier and although I'm quite terrified at the time, he gets me through it and afterwards all other slopes suddenly seem easier.

Enjoy!

Build your leg muscles - you'll get stronger control and this gives you confidence to manoeuvre.

Keep going, it’s time is skis now

I'm Captain Slow on the slopes. I just take each section as it comes and try to do the same runs over and over to build my confidence in them. I'm a solid blue, and will slowly pick my way down any big drops, and am relieved to just get to the bottom. Other skiiers probably think I'm mad if they hear me muttering 'finish your curve' to myself as I slowly S my way down.

Also, I found that an hour warming up on the nursery slopes everyday did wonders for my confidence and helped remind my legs what to do. An added perk was that the queue lift had gone by the time I finished on them.

Try and keep your body upper (torso) facing down the mountain , at all times , don't face the way you are going . Not sure if that makes sense .

Thanks so much for messages. We won't have time to practice before first lesson, unless we can get onto the greens late afternoon though not sure we'll get ski equipment on time.

Will tell DH we need to practice on the same runs a few times before becoming adventurous!
