How to decide which ski school?

I'm heading to a German Centre Parcs in Feb half term. It's near a ski area so I want to book some beginners lessons for the DC aged 12 and 9. We are only there for 4 nights so lessons over 2/3 days. DD1 is an Aspie and can get overwhelmed in groups, I think other languages being spoken could really stress her out, so I am thinking of 2:1 private lessons. We are there such a short time I would hope they would also progress a bit more with the attention.

Not many reviews in English as the area attracts German and Dutch mainly. Is there anything I should ask about? I am thinking 2 x 2 hour private lessons but I have no clue really. Do i assume that any school listed on the resort ski lift area (if that's what it's called) website should be OK? It's just a taster really as they will have the opportunity to ski with school at some point. Me and DH will never ski.

It's surprising Centre Parcs don't endorse any providers as they advertise skiing as an activity on the website for the parc.

Have you contacted centre parcs for a recommendation? Maybe contact the tourist information centre in the town and ask them, or email the schools you have the details for, specifically asking if they have any instructors that have experience with special needs children.

If it is local half term it may be a struggle to find English speaking instructors available to suit your needs. Tbh 2 hours is not going to get them far, especially if needing to get used to equipment or it is cold or busy. Do you have time to try them on a slope beforehand?

Another idea would be to look up the ski club of great Britain website. I've used it to review resorts, but there might be more info, or someone to contact with questions specifically about your resort or choosing a ski school.

Have you checked on trip advisor or google review?
I'd contact each of them and ask about English speaking classes - speed and politeness of their responses should give you a bit of insight.

I can’t contact Centre Parcs as there is no answer e-mail address and customer services in Belgium never answer. Some Trip Advisor reviews says CPs not helpful with skiing info.

It’s not local hols in Germany or Netherlands and there is currently availability for lessons. I have contacted one school already who can fit us in but they have poor reviews from the few I can find online.

I’ve contacted another school adverting through a site, Yogi I think. They have availability, waiting to hear back.

I’m not expecting them to ski in two lessons but as we only have 4 nights I was wondering what was sensible in the time we have. Group lessons are 3 hours so I assumed they would cover more in less time in private lessons.

Thanks for the advice. My mum wanted to go somewhere with snow but I have no interest in skiing. We’ve gone cheap going somewhere with few Brits but info is hard to find.

I haven’t take them to our local dry slope as I had an injury there and the first aid was dire. I know of lots of other injuries and there was a dangerous incident involving my DC which luckily did not result in injury but was badly managed by the staff.

You would be surprised by how quickly they learn. Try to book the lessons first thing in the morning so they can then practise what they have learnt with you for the rest of the day.
Most ski instructors will speak English.

Have fun, they will love it and then you will go bankrupt as they will ask you to go skiing every year!

Centre Paris won’t advise on outside parties formally, due to insurance reasons. One accident they would also be held to blame. I would instead join Facebook groups and ask for recommendations. Instructors will be part of these groups and will inform you what they can offer, plus other previous users will tell you their experiences

Autocorrect 😂 Parcs not Paris

Not a direct answer to your question but is there any way you can take them to a snow dome before you go? If they're starting from scratch - like how to step into your skis etc, it would seem a real waste of a private ski lesson to do that. If your DD hates it, or is stressed by it, you can simply enjoy Center Parcs.

You could get a half day session at a snow dome / couple of lessons and it will make a massive difference in being able to utilise the time better when you're there.

The snowheads website might be worth a look about ski school recommendations - they have lots of resort reviews and you can search by keyword.

I’m in SW Devon so snow dome is too far away unfortunately. Found some useful posts on Snowheads but nothing about specific schools.

Got a reply from a school in a quiet area that gets good reviews on Yeti for beginners. They are happy to accommodate DD’s needs in a group setting and as it is a quiet area they think she will be ok. They say they have supported children with additional needs before. There is a cafe next to the ski school so I will be bringing a book and chilling with a hot choc and cake. Close enough to rescue DD1 if required. Booked them in for two days. Could probably do a third if the kids want to.

Thanks for the advice.
