Hello just wondering if there’s some experienced Whistler holiday makers here 😁
Always skied Europe so Canada is a bit of a change!
Will have our 18month old DD with us, would it be unreasonable to think she could have a little go on the nursery slopes? We’re going to ski alone for a couple of days so need to put her in childcare, has anyone got any recommendations? From what I can see a crèche will only take little ones from 18months onwards and she’l just be short of that by a week, so I think private nanny is our only option?
Any recommendations for family activities whilst we’re there would be great ☺️

Not sure about trying the nursery floors but this blog may help. We’ve been plenty of times and from 3+ the ski school is fantastic. The village is so pretty over Christmas, the lights on the trees are just lovely. I’m very jealous.

The tube park is great for families, check out what is on in the Olympics plaza. We’ve always found the hotels have lots of activities for younger guests. Do you have Christmas dinner sorted?

Whistler Nannies were fab, very organised a professional. Love Whistler, the best skiing in the world IMO. The whole vibe is amazing.

We did the tree top walk, tube park, obviously peak to peak. We stay in Creekside, but go to Whistler village quite a bit.

One year we also did the Olympic bobsleigh... OMG!

Sorry for repeated post. I can’t quite help myself. Can’t wait to go back

There's a great relatively new Scandinavian spa www.scandinave.com/whistler/en/ . No kids though. If you go, go when it opens as it gets quite busy a few hours after opening.

Whistler Nannies are good and will be your only childcare option for under 18 months. I would book soon as they can get busy at peak periods.

I think Whistler Nannies also rent strollers, as do The Circle Kids (fab childrenswear store) - you will need a jogging type stroller to get about in the snow easily.

I wouldn’t recommend putting an 18month old on skis - their joints and ligaments are not ready for it, and their heads are disproportionately large meaning that their centre of balance is way off. Imagine a tiny toddler sliding and falling backwards, back of head hitting the snow and you will understand what I mean. Helmets just make the head bigger and heavier and exacerbate the effect. Wait until age three.

That said, if you are looking for cute photo opportunities, you can get little plastic strap on skis that go over their snow boots. I wouldn’t let a young toddler like yours slide by themselves for the reasons above but you could help them walk and slide on the plastic skis while you hold them from behind. You might be able to safely do this at the base of Blackcomb Mountain - try the late morning when everyone is up the hill to get an empty slope, don’t attempt at the end of the day - it’s carnage 😄.

Keep your fingers crossed that we get some snow soon, it’s a bit thin at the moment!

Thank you all for the helpful advice! Booked with Whistler nannies and very tempted by the Scandinavian spa! Can’t wait to get on the slopes 😁
