Well we've booked this resort so would love to know anyone's experiences or advice. This is our second ski holiday so not super experienced yet Smile

Where are you staying? We are there at half term.

MissMarple11 · 28/11/2019 09:57

We are there for the February Scottish School holiday. We've got an air bnb booked which seems reasonably priced. We needed two bedrooms as my mum is coming, not to ski but to do a bit of daytime babysitting when our son has had enough of skiing.

I'll need to look at ski school for my son soon too. Seems like a nice resort. I was just hoping for some insider knowledge.

We've never been before but the ski school has a very good reputation.

massistar · 05/12/2019 14:41

No but we're going to Pas de la Casa which I think is nearby! First time in Andorra.. really looking forward. Slightly concerned that it's seen as a beginners resort as we have a big bunch of super adventurous teens with us!

MissMarple11 · 09/01/2020 14:48

If anyone is still getting updates for this thread. Did you book ski passes and lesson through either of these websites?

www.grandvalira.com/en OR soldeu.com/

I'm not sure which one to use or if they are actually the same company.

Thanks

I'm not sure looking at them. We're on a package.

MissMarple11 · 10/01/2020 12:26

In case anyone is interested I think they are both ok. I've been reading a few websites which are saying that the Grandvalira area is being split up so I think that's why there is a separate site for Soldeu.

I've booked the kids lessons on the soldeu one and once we get round to hiring the skis and getting passes I'll use the same website.

Really looking forward to going now.

Ooh thanks for the link. Think our hotel said they'd arrange passes but useful info on here! We're finally out of ski school stage so just non-stop skiing/boarding. Can't wait!

Sunshine1239 · 25/01/2020 10:04

I’ve been soldeu past 4 years which is up road from el tarter and all linked on lift pass so there every day

It’s amazing! The ski area is fab although el tarter resort is very quiet -but it’s only about a mile walk up the road to soldeu (or 5 minute ski!) if you want more shops etc

Just check location of accomodation as el tarter is super tiny and I think some rentals advertise as el tarter but can be quite a distance from the slopes which you don’t want as it’s on a main road

Sunshine1239 · 25/01/2020 10:09

Gran liars are the mountain company direct

Soldeu.com (do all resorts) are a travel company specialising in Andorra - I highly recommend them and have booked al my ski extra with them for the last few years

The area isn’t being broken up but they’re argumenta over finance distribution by resort but no way is it splitting as tourism has gone through the roof since they combined!

For pp, Pas de la casa is not a beginners resort it’s the bigger resort and is actually the party resort with loads of bigger slopes and easy ski over to grau roig. It’s perfect for teens 😊

Sunshine1239 · 25/01/2020 10:09

Granliars = grandvilara

NCTDN · 25/01/2020 11:45

Are there any shops in El tartar?

Sunshine1239 · 25/01/2020 12:10

Yes defo and some nice restaurants but not a big resort at all - more hotel based etc

Nice lovely pub at the bottom of the slopes too and the dog sledding is based there

Sunshine1239 · 25/01/2020 12:12

It’s basically connected to soldeu by a 10-15 min walk but the shops are all the same anyway!

Sunshine1239 · 25/01/2020 12:14

Don’t be put off by the resort

I’ve skied in many European resorts and the new grandvilara area of Andorra beats most of them👍

Poochnewbie · 25/01/2020 12:14

We’ve just come back. It was excellent. Lots of variety in the runs. Ski school was great for my 8 year old. We used grandvalira.com for booking passes. We got the lunch vouchers which we found good value.

NCTDN · 25/01/2020 19:34

@Poochnewbie where did you stay? We've got lunch vouchers included - was there much choice?

Sunshine1239 · 25/01/2020 20:53

The lunch vouchers are amazing and can be used in almost all places and inc choice of an alcoholic drink! The meal value to buy averages €10 pp so they’re a huge saving

In el tarter there’s a pizza place and burger place and similar in the other resorts

NCTDN · 25/01/2020 22:27

Oh wow I was expecting a coke and a plate of chips!

Sunshine1239 · 26/01/2020 10:06

No they’re big meals as all one size. Chicken wings, beef/chicken burgers, hot toasties etc all with chips etc, various pizzas then soft drink beer or wine

Sunshine1239 · 26/01/2020 10:07

If you look on soldeu.com there’s a list of all the places in grandvilara that accept them

Lotty32 · 26/01/2020 10:14

My parents live in Andorra and I've skied there every year since childhood. Skiiing is good now and good up the mountain is very good value compared to 3 valleys etc. Lots of English go FYI

MissMarple11 · 27/01/2020 14:04

Thanks so much for the info.

I've got a daft question though about the lunch vouchers. Its 19.5 to add lunch to an adults ski pass but 43.25 to add to a kids ski pass. Anyone know why this is?

Left early from our Airbnb in el tartar last year due to heavy construction outside as they're building a number of new apartments.

I'd suggest going into Andorra la Vella for a night as much more options and it's only 30 mins away

NCTDN · 13/02/2020 18:26

OP what did you decide about lunch vouchers?
