Question about clothing

Just wondering about base layers and outer layers.

How many pairs of salopettes per person do you recommend? And base layers? Between us we have a range of cotton/polyester blend, merino and technical. We'd like to use as much of what we already have as possible, but if some are better than others, that would be great to know. Also, how many sets to take? There is no washing machine, but I'm happy to hand wash to keep packing light.

Going to Austria for a week in February.

One pair of salopettes. 2/3 base layers. I hung ours over balcony to air. Partly as I’m tight but also short of space as went hand luggage only. It’s cold at the moment but was 13•c in Feb half term and we had short sleeved t shirts under ski jackets.

One pair of salopettes is fine. I manage with two merino base layers for a week. Technical fabrics are only really good for one wear ime.
Have fun!

I take one pair salopettes and two sets thermal underwear which I wash out the leggings by hand at the end of the day.

One pair saloppetes. 2 base layers. 2 pairs ski socks (which I don’t wash just rotate they never smell)

A tube of hand wash. Use the heated towel rail in the bathroom to dry the base layers which I wash every day.

Fab! Thank you all. I'm loving this. We always go hand luggage only when we go away so I'm loving the sound of packing almost nothing!

Just to give the other view, I can’t imagine having two base layers and two pairs of socks for 6 days skiing. Especially if you are hand luggage only that means rental boots? Makes me feel a bit queasy... One year my son was given whiffy boots and we had to change or wash his socks daily. Base layers and socks don’t take up much room so I’d take 3 minimum unless you are happy handwashing nightly but I would hate that!

One salopettes and 3 ski socks here. I tend to take 3 base layers (top only) and depending on weather forecast I mix warm vs dry layers and 2 fleeces so can cover all bases.

PuzzlingPuzzle · 13/03/2019 00:15

Presuming no laundry in your accommodation: One pair of snow pants/ski trousers for the week. 2-3 mid layers like a jumper of fleece top. A pair of leggings for underneath the trousers, a base layer (a t-shirt or thermal top depending on time of year) and pair of ski socks for each day you plan on skiing. With the why I ski it would be utterly disgusting to rewear anything that’s been next to your skin!!

drspouse · 13/03/2019 00:35

I don't think you can expect to go skiing on hand luggage only, sorry.

rookiemere · 13/03/2019 08:16

Some people do go hand luggage only - I couldn't, but you really only need one set of thermals if you wash them at night and have a heated towel rail or radiator

PhannyMcNee · 13/03/2019 08:19

We take 3x socks and 2x base layers. But I fully accept we’re a skanky stinky bunch during the day - how luxurious those clean Apres Ski clothes feel after a good shower GrinBlush

OhCobblers · 16/03/2019 18:48

For a week (with checked in luggage) I take 2 x salopettes, 2 x base layers, 2 x mid layers, 2 x socks but they are quality ski socks and I rotate.

Honestly though, if I can pick up a third set of everything in the sale dregs before we go in a few weeks then I will.
It all feels a bit mingy by day 5!!!
