I am wanting to take my 2 children skiing the first week in April. They are 6 and 7 and have done a week previously (so know how to snowplough down greens/blues).

Looking at La Plagne, Tignes, or Val Thorens.

Any advice on which would be best (snow sure and suitable level wise) Smile

1st week in April you need to go high to be snow sure. Val Thorens is the highest resort for skiing in Europe, so I'd go there!

La Plagne is quite a bit lower.

Val Thorens. We went the first week in April last year it was incredible. We will be there the first week in April this year too (with a 5&6 year old)

It’s very snowsure up there and you’d be a good 5 weeks from the end of their season. It’s a lovely resort for learners too. 3 magic carpets in the beginner area giving lots of scope to practice before the chairlift. No button lifts, and buttons are hard for learners so that’s a plus. Just chairs and gondolas.

Just to add in Val Thorens it faces north so not too slushy. Tignes is slightly lower ( only a few hundred metres) but I believe from what I’ve read there are more west facing slopes leading to slushy runs in the afternoon.

Tignes or Val Thorens. They’re both high with glaciers so about as snow sure as it gets (you can even ski the top of Tignes in August!) and lots of great cruisy blues for the kids. I’d see where you can get find the best accommodation in your budget and pick based on that.

Great suggestions. Thank you so much.

Think I might have found the ideal package for Val Thorens so going to get booking before I change my mind.

I have always loved La Plagne and skied there with my little one.
Really nice wide pistes.
There are some great hotels with guaranteed ski in ski out and fab child care.

La Plagne is harder to get up high and stay high. Tignes is great. Cervinia has the highest lift in Europe

Tignes Val Claret is a great location - there are a lot of blue runs up towards the glacier and, if you take the Fresse chairlift over towards Val d'Isere and then the Borsat Express, some lovely friendly green runs. It's possible to stay up high on a variety of blue runs and you only encounter the softer stuff in the afternoons when skiing back to the village.

I agree with string bean. That’s the issue, not how high the base is, but can you get high and stay high.
