What age did you take your children skiing/snowboarding?

Just wondering really, we have two DD aged 1 & 2, so I know it's not going to be for a few years yet. But I'm really missing the mountains so I'm daydreaming and wondered what age you took your children on their first snow holiday and how they coped?

Sorry I did put paragraphs in that honest!

Anyway my point is although you’ll hear lots of people who have put their 2-year old on skis and they’ve loved it since coming back I’ve heard a lot of stories like ours too and they were just too young.

They were 18 months when we first took them. Both started skiing age 3.

Took my 3.11 last week for the first time and he loved it. Progressed really well and was able to go on a gentle blue slope with his instructor by the end - snowplough turns and all. Things that helped - we went term time so there were 4 kids in his ESF class and occasionally only 2 of them. He is big for his age. We were at Chamonix. Now wondering where to take him for 19/20 season and whether to go at Christmas or New Year since we will now be tied to school holidaysConfused

Does totally depend on the child. Our 3.5 year old was happy with four hours of ski school and went up the mountains with her class. But she is a good listener and physically generally adept. There was a slightly older child who really struggled.

If you go just have back up options!

Newmummy can I also ask where you found child friendly to bae yourself in Chamonix?

4 and 7. The older one did brilliantly and was on blues by the end of the week. The younger one got really frustrated - he didn't seem to have the strength or co-ordination to manage it - and we pulled him out of lessons after a couple of days. We're trying again this Easter (when youngest will be 5 and a 1/2), fingers crossed he enjoys it more this time!

@famousfour We were based at Les Planards, pretty much Chamonix Centre. There was a playground, the rollercoaster ride, lovely walks and the ESF ski school took had him for 2 hours every morning and he skiied with us (well skiied with my husband and played in the snow with me more like!) in the afternoon.

5,3 and just 1 the first time with Snowbizz. Crèche For 1 yr old. Been every year since. This was our 3rd year and the youngest skied at just 3. He LOVED it. However, he won’t be any better a skier in later life because of the week he did this time. What he loved was that he knew he was skiing like his older siblings. Snowbizz just do an hour at this age and the rest of the time is fun in the crèche (and they have loads of fun....,I struggle to get my now 7 year old out of there despite the fact he loves skiing too)! Snowbizz have a great set up with little ones. Accommodation isn’t plush but clean and basic. I’d definitely recommend them.

My children were 3 and 1 but the earliest they could ski was 3. They really benefited from it once they were 4 - I think 3 was quite young.
