Talk to me about North American skiing...

Would love to hear your recommendations for where to go/where to stay/any other tips for skiing in North America for next season. We want snowsure resort with plenty of challenging skiing, a nice town and childcare for DD who will be around 18 months. Accommodation needs to be close to the slopes and have suites or a set-up where we’re not sitting in the dark after DD goes to bed. A spa would be a massive bonus and I’d prefer not to self-cater. Our previous ski holidays have all been to catered chalets in France with a nanny/kid’s club so that’s what we’re used to.

Budget negotiable; would love to her your ideas and go from there.

Whistler meets most if not all your requirements, the only one I'm not sure about is catered as I'm not sure that you will find the catered set up that you have experienced in France. If you stay in the village most of the accommodation is within easy walking distance of the slopes, Creekside the same. There are also free shuttle buses from the hotels many of which I would say are within walking distance but they are there if you want to use them.

A lot of the hotel accommodation is actually set up as self-catering apartments, but you will often have the option of room service. There are loads of great restaurants if you didn't want to self-cater.

We haven't used child-care but have used the ski school from age age 3 up, and that is all day from age 3. It is brilliant.

Loads and loads of challenging skiing.

We've skied their Easter and Christmas and always has snow. One Easter we couldn't ski to the village but there was plenty of snow in the alpine.

Whistler nannies (agency name) we're fabulous. The service in North America is excellent. I bloody love Whistler. If you can Ski hard, any terrain, there is nothing like it. The whole mountain is in bounds including cliff drops and skiable!

Whistler sounds like it is just what we’re after thank you both. A self catering apartment but one near restaurants and where we can order room service sounds perfect! Will check out Whistler nannies too. Grin

We stay in Legends creekside. Pool, hot tub, a few local restaurants, supermarket, and you can order anything for delivery

We are also thinking of N. America next Easter but the US Rockies.
We would possibly be going the first week of April and we are looking for a combination of childcare (after-ski-school for a 4yo and a 7yo), snow, and a bit of cross-country.
I know Whistler would have all of those but we have a side trip planned to another part of the US and it would just be too much travelling to go up to Whistler as well!
Wondering about Big Sky, Jackson Hole, that part of the world?

Shutupsidney · 18/08/2018 19:57

Jackson Hole is on my wish list. Lots of great off piste bowls. Not sure how late they run.

Not sure about the geography but Mammoth is snow sure at Easter

Vail is also highly rated by a ski fiend friend. He always goes at Easter.

drspouse · 18/08/2018 21:35

Ah Mammoth is California and we'll be heading East but Vail could work!

Shutupsidney · 21/08/2018 19:23

I really want to go to Vail.. can't decide if it's too far for a week though and Easter is allocated for something else.
