Any sneaky tips? Go earlier, come back later, stay in Glasgow the night before? I live in the north but happy to drive most places for a flight. - am heading to 3V probably

It’s an obvious one but you can use the sky scanner website/ app to search airports nearby your nominated departure/ arrival choice and it will also show you prices over a whole month so you should be able to see all the options.
Failing that, drive? I actually have no idea if that’s feasible.

Thanks, I need to get home to my pc for skyscanner, I don't find the ph me app great.
Driving is a possibility I'm looking at, as is the train but that's not great from north

We've been pricing up flights. If we go on the Thursday before half term, rather than the weekend, we can save £400-£500 Angry

Omg! The prices are crazy aren't they?! We are thinking Monday to Monday but I hate the thought of taking DC (8&6) out of school.

I saved a fortune flying into Lyon instead of Geneva.

RosieLig · 26/04/2018 23:26

Also Scotland have the week before England so it is probably a lot cheaper flying from Glasgow that week!

RosieLig · 26/04/2018 23:27

Sorry I mean because the English week isn’t the same as the Scottish one, you should find flying from Glasgow a lot cheaper for the English week.

user1494670108 · 28/04/2018 00:54

Thanks, I've already found that northern flights are a fair bit cheaper which suits us but it's still going to cost us £1k more just for the flight than last year ( for 3 of us).

We often fly into Munich to go to Austria. It means going on a Friday night and coming home on a Sunday evening but even with acconadation we usually saved a few hundred on the flight costs when prices are bumped up for the half term skiing in February. I loved it because it made the holiday a little longer than the Saturday to Saturday rush.

RosieLig · 29/04/2018 10:24

We’re flying into Lyon for the 3V- maybe an option?

user1494670108 · 30/04/2018 21:50

Just checked, nice flights but £1400 for 3 people.

I know the Scottish ones are truly bonkers. Jet2 To Turin not quite so bad and gives access to quite a lot of good resorts. Or Venice flights were looking not too bad a couple of days ago. People were recommending Colletts to me before and they still have some limited availability for half term

Or look at package holidays- some of crystal prices seem reasonable as include transfers

allthgoodusernamesaretaken · 15/05/2018 17:55

you can fly from Edinburgh too, not just glasgow

KeithLeMonde · 15/05/2018 17:57

We go at Easter and chose a high resort. Much quieter as well as cheaper.

willstarttomorrow · 15/05/2018 20:10

I second Easter as a recommendation. Went this year and it is so much quieter (and sunnier). Easter is late next year though, however we are lucky in that our LA always have Easter break in the first two weeks of April regardless of when Easter falls. Hoping for some really cheap flights next year!

I have no idea which level you all ski at so I apologise in advance if this is a crazy suggestion but one year we ended up in Ponia Brasov, Romania. This was purely by chance as I had decided that we could not afford a ski holiday that February. Using skyscanner I found very cheap flights to Romania (about £30 return) and decided there looked like enough to do for a cheap break. After booking I discovered there were some ski resorts (we flew into Bucharest) so the plan was we would head to Transalvania and include a bit of skiing. I cannot really ski now due to a back injury but DD ended up spending most of the days on the slopes, joining a group from the international school who were there on residential. The instructor was fabulous and really pushed her. However you are limited to about 25 km of slopes so it could get boring very quickly for more advanced skiers. It was incredibly cheap and Transalvania is stunning with lots of things to do.

It’s because some of the Scottish schools have the week before the English schools. This means the holidays were priced much more keenly and all the super organised people booked up. We could have saved £1200 by going from Manchester instead of Edinburgh that week (the Esprit supplement was £300 pp from Edinburgh), but moved to the first week of our Easter hols which is also conveniently not a peak English week.

memyselfandmoi · 09/07/2018 12:25

Can you drive? It's not that bad and can save loads when the prices are crazy.
