I've gone to Killington in VT. We had a great time. Though it was before children, so don't know about there facilities.

Mont Tremblant in Canada would be good for a group with kids.

bear in mind it could be freezing ! We went one Christmas-New Year pre kids and it was very, very cold, little sun and short days. Christmas Day skiing was magical , pistes were so quiet and still, but New Year was manic and very busy. Also bear in mind that the better resorts are several hours drive form Boston so you'd probably need to overnight there rather than fly in and drive straight there. Tuition, especially for kids , is supposed to be great but we're saving the trip for when the kids are older.

We stayed first in Jackson NH (nr North Conway and its outlets !), which gave us relatively easy access by car to several mountain areas, none of which I'd say was a resort in itself though, then Lincoln NH near Loon Mountain and also driveable to Waterville Valley, a resort which has a good family friendly reputation.

I learned to ski at Sugarbush in Vermont. It's a lovely, family oriented ski resort. I think we flew into Burlington, and then drove to the resort.

One thing to keep in mind though - conditions in the Northeast part of America can be quite icy, so it's not the same fabulous conditions as you might find out West. I was glad to have learned with so much ice, as it means (in theory) that anything else should be much easier.

We've been to smugglers notch in vermont in feb 2006 and this year went to Tremblant in quebec also Feb 1/2 term. Both were excellent places for children in terms of teaching and facilites and the transfers from the airport were easy - Tremblant just a couple of hours drive and Smuggs spent a night in Boston and then drove up. The problem was the snow - Smuggs had very poor snow, and although Tremblant had snow in Feb it was bitterly cold and at New Year they had been relying on snow-making I think. Because of the cold I really wouldn't recommend Tremblant to families with little kids who hadn't skiied before. ds2 at 5 found it really cold and he was on his third trip so a reasonable skiier. I think it must be really miserable to be tiny and not moving much. We will not go again until ds3 has had a couple of years skiing - at 2 he cried if outside for more than a few minutes.
Whenever we have more than a week we go to the west coast instead - always end up with snow. Pre-kids we had a brillian trip to Lake Tahoe skiing over Christmas then drove up to San Fransisco stopping at Big Sur and Monteray over new year. This bit was really warm. We will definately do this one with kids one day.
