Ski Trip Travel Insurance Recommendations?

Our daughter (on a very low income) and granddaughter live in England. We have paid for them to meet up with us in Canada at Easter to spend a week at a ski resort and then fly with us to spend a week at our home in the USA and then home again to England. We are all British citizens.

None of this is via a package tour; I have made online bookings for a coach to Heathrow, flights, accommodation, ski school for the GD and lift passes.

I now need to arrange for travel insurance for them (btw my daughter as no disposable income, this is a big treat for them) and of course ski and travel trip insurance to North America is going to be the most expensive kind of insurance, but absolutely necessary.

I know that one can buy travel insurance online from say, ASDA or the Post Office - but I don’t know how their product measures up if there is a medical emergency in North America (and possible repatriation back to the UK) and what is more important, how reliable they may be?

Has anyone got any recommendations or tips on which insurance companies they have used....and which ones they would avoid? Of course I will liaise with my daughter about their most recent medical consultations so as to declare to the insurance company so they won’t avoid paying out on any possible claims. Thank you!

No personal reccommendations, but the MSE travel insurance guide will be helpful - it is careful to point out the firms with full coverage and a decent track record.

North American skiing will be more expensive of course, but still not big money if she has no serious pre-existing conditions.

We always use these guys who are experts in ski insurance. Call them and talk to them if easier and have a great trip. Smile

A lot of ski resorts in Canada are privately owned so you might find that mountain rescue is included in your lift pass price. (It is in Bulgaria) so before you splash out on an all singing all dancing insurance policy, I would check this first.

As Canada has some of the most expensive healthcare, I'd make sure it is really all singing and dancing, and you have a credit card to hand.

At no point did I say to travel without insurance. That would be stupid even to some where with cheap healthcare!!!!! But ones that include mountain rescue might be unnecessary for a ski trip IF it's included in the lift pass price.
