Essential packing list

We’re going skiing for 2.5 days in Feb.

Any good essential packing lists around for adults and teenagers?

Since we’re not going for long I’m keen to avoid having to buy stuff we’ve missed in the resort.

Just packing right now! Spare gloves - very expensive to buy in resort.
Will update later with my list :-)

Thank you!

We all have a ski jacket and trousers. We’ve got thermal under layers and a fleece each. I was hoping to get away with two sets of thermals and one set of outer clothes. I’ve got snoods and ski socks too.

I need to get:

Gloves x how many per person?
Goggles - or do you hire those with skis?
Do we need snow boots? Would wellies suffice?
SPF lip balm and face sun tan lotion
Insurance!

Will hire skis, poles, boots and helmets.

We’ve had a few dry slope lessons but apart from DH we’re all novices. He usually goes with work so has it all provided.

Just seen this list....

Take your own goggles. Go to a store to try some on. Tho i prefer just sunglasses.

Also an Aldi 20£ helmet may be cheaper than hiring... but you can hire helmets. They will sell you goggles there but £££££

Not wellies!! Get some proper snow boots look at mountain warehouse decathlon trespass etc for cheap ones just make sure they for snow. Wear them to travel.

cestlavielife · 03/02/2018 15:39

A comfortable light backpack if you are the one carrying water money phone and essentials.

SheepAreSuper · 03/02/2018 18:16

Two sets of thermals and one set of outer clothes should be fine. I don't take much more for a week.

You can usually hire goggles but it's cheaper to pick up some before you go or even borrow some. I got Aldi goggles for a fiver for my first trip but I think I used them once in 8 days as sunglasses were fine for the rest.

It's always a good idea to take 2 pairs of gloves each incase you lose one. They tend to be expensive at resort. Again I got Aldi gloves for my first trip for a few quid and I still use these (often in preference to my more expensive gloves as they seem to smell less and dry quicker). A pair of liners are useful too.

If you can get snow boots then great but waterproof walking boots or shoes will usually suffice as long as they have a good tread. Wellies aren't particularly warm or comfortable.

Your mobiles will be fine.

For teens I would take more than two base layers for a week. 3 at least as they can get warm under all the layers and then you have to do a wash (unless you have laundry).

If you are going to spend on anything and you are a relative novice, make it your goggles. Being able to see when conditions are poor makes all the difference in the world!

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 04/02/2018 08:58

We’ll only be skiing for 2.5 days but I can get an extra set of base layers in as they take up no room at all.

Can you recommend a good make of goggles? Will they fit over my glasses? Are they like wearing sunglasses too?

Mine have been Adidas and I've been really happy with them but have just switched to Oakley with Prizm lenses as reviews have been so good. Igero have some good deals right now but maybe as well to go somewhere you can try on over your glasses. Some models do say that they will fit over. My kids have always had A frames.

Different people will say different things and some people will say you'll be fine in a pair that cost a fiver but it really helped me!

I've never paid out for top skiing sunglasses as I still Prefer the visibility with a goggle even in sunshine (probably because I've never paid out for good ones!)

Just thought I'd also come back and post this link http://snowheads.com/ski-forum/viewtopic.php?t=136097 as the guy a few posts down clearly knows his stuff re goggles/glasses etc.

Good luck - I bet you're goggled our now OP Smile
