Clothes for skiing?

Please can anyone help? Over thermal base layers how many more layers before ski jackets? I was thinking long sleeve t shirt type top and maybe a fleece?

What is essential to pack for a ski holiday that I may have forgotten?

Many thanks Smile

When are you going?

If it's Jan-Feb, likely to be cold so agree thermal, then t-shirt and fleece, if March then I'd probably drop one of the layers depending on how hot it is.

I usually bring a little backpack or bum-bag to carry a bottle of water and a snack.

February, to France

Thanks for your reply

Either base and one layer, or cotton layer and fleece. If very warm one layer will do.

I’m going next week. I’ll be wearing base layers (merino), fleece lined leggings, long sleeved fleece (thin) and a down jacket under my ski jacket and trousers. Then a buff, helmet, goggles, two pairs of gloves. It can be really cold this time of year, especially on chair lifts. Depends how good you are though, when you’re learning you get really hot!

I'm not good, haven't skied for 20 years so signed up for beginner lessons! I'm really though, the snow looks amazing 😀

Another question please! Our snow boots are obviously bulky, do you wear these to travel in or pack them?

Depends on your luggage allowance. I tend to put them in the hold as they're a bit bulky and hot for travelling in, its also useful to have some trainers or non- snow boots for the evening if there isn't snow on the streets.

Ilikesweetpeas · 28/01/2018 15:36

Thanks Rookie, I'll see how close we are to weight allowance!

In Feb in Europe I've never needed more than base plus fleece and ski jacket. On sunny days I tend to wear two base layers and ditch the fleece. We don't travel in snow boots or jackets either. Smile

I travel in my boots (not snow boots but waterproof) and take slippers for in the chalet. Don’t bother with anything else. I have to fit my ski boots into my main luggage though.

Sunglasses (here's hoping)
I made a note last year to take more light shirts etc for dinnertime and light PJs for family as hotel/chalet often boiling

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 30/01/2018 13:20

Yes, decent sunglasses, lip balm and sun block (optimistic, aren’t I?!)

I also find hotels etc boiling so wear summer PJs. I often forget to pack normal socks

AliceLutherNeeMorgan · 30/01/2018 13:21

Oh and I put gloves and a hat in my hand luggage as it’s always a shock walking out of the airport when you get there!

rookiemere · 31/01/2018 10:43

Oh yes a good Facial factor 50+ is a must, plus an SPF lip balm.
I've forgotten these a few times, or thought I'd get away with a SPF30 and ended up having to buy very expensively in the resort.

Just catching up, a few helpful suggestions here. Thank you!
