Ski pants for fat arse/thighs

Any one got any recommendations? I'm a 16 to 18 I'm high street clothes, currently have a pair of 18 sallopettes from Mountain Warehouse, and wanted to upgrade to some decent quality pants this year.

But apparently I am too fat to ski, at least as far as the high end brands seem to think - I've just tried on a pair or size 20 Schoffel pants that didn't fit me.

Does anyone know if any high end brands cater to the fit and lardy? Or have any recommendations for a source that's better quality than MW?

I don't need serious performance, but I do need them to stand up to some fairly stiff skiing over a few seasons.

I have lipodema so have fairly chunky thighs. I love Noronna, see if they have something. Otherwise have a look on eBay to see which brands they sell in an 18/20 if you use buy it now you automatically get 14 day return policy

HermionesRightHook · 14/12/2017 20:38

I did not know that about ebay, thank you! Norrona looks brilliant too.

Maybe it's time to do fewer squats? Because I'm not giving up the pies Smile

Try Salomon salopettes.

HermionesRightHook · 14/12/2017 23:59

Thank you Chantilly but alas Salomon are definitely too small. A lot of high end ski gear seems to use dressmaking sizes, at least for larger sizes, which have been pretty stable for decades and are usually two higher than high street.

Their sizing chart gives a 20-22 as 111-119 cm hip - that might just work for me if the ease runs large, but ski gear generally doesn't. M&S for example gives that measurement as a size smaller. I know I can fit in 16-18 in M&S depending on cut, because they use a lot of ease in their designs, too.

I wish companies would give thigh measurement too - that's my issue, if it was actually the hip measurement then the Salomon would fit!

Vanity sizing makes all this so hard - I really don't care about the actual number on clothes, I just want something to ski in!

I have Tog 24 trousers and am a size 16 -18 too.

Like these.

If that does not work try snowboarding pants - they tend to be cut more generously! I also have some DC snowboard pants from my snowboarding days!

Thank you all for your help with this!

I ended up going back to Mountain Warehouse and found some of their top-end stuff that fitted perfectly. It's definitely better quality than my previous ones although they don't compare to Salomon et al. Also they may have been last year's stock as they were heavily discounted so I've saved myself about £150 on what I was thinking of spending.

However, I'm pleased anyway despite hankering after the fancy gear - I don't want to give money to people who don't think I should be skiing just because I'm not a 8-14.

About to say I’m in Tog24 also after recommendation on here last year and I love them especially as I’m short 5ft2-3 and I didn’t have to shorten them. I was a 16-18 when I bought them but I’ve dropped to 14-16 and the adjustable sides mean they fit fine. Hope you enjoy skiing in your new pants, we’ve having great (cold) week in Austria at mo

Outedsochanged · 21/12/2017 08:22

Try Dare2B. They had a couple of pairs that went up to a size 30. Although like you said they are not 'high Street size' so I ended up in 2 sizes up

hevonbu · 21/12/2017 08:32

Have you looked at the makes Bergans or Lundhags? A UK size 18 is most likely equivalent of size 46-48 or size XL (for women) if I'm not mistaken (check the exact measurements with the store). Order over the Internet if no other way. Bergans is from Norway and Lundhags is from Sweden.

Get thee in to a pair of mens North Face pants (!) or any mens'trousers really. I find them so much more comfy. Am a size 16-18 women's but with wide hips.

cloudjumper · 31/12/2017 13:37

I second going for men's salopettes. I struggled to find any women trousers due to wide hips/fat thighs, now I've got Salomon ones, very roomy.

PickleSarnie · 31/12/2017 15:46

My Salomon ice glorys are bloody tiny. Relatively - they're a size 14 not a 6. But come up way smaller than others. I'm eating nothing but dust and fresh until March so I'll squeeze into them.

My back up trespass pair are much roomier. They go up to an 18. Possibly 20

Rotorevolution · 05/01/2018 07:44

Jelly Hanson come up big. I brought size 16 and they were too big.

crumpet · 05/01/2018 07:54

Have you tried some of the stretchy ones?

Rotorevolution · 05/01/2018 11:37

Helly Hanson not jelly!

Blondie83 · 12/01/2018 11:10

Could always try getting snowboard pants, baggier and more comfortable!
