Thanks for everyone who responded on the previous thread about my single parent ski holiday - I have booked!

Ok so there is me and DD,13 skiing for a week.

How many base layers do we need? Also do we need fresh mid layers for each day? Finally is one ski jacket and trousers enough?

Sorry one more question Grin re shoes, what sort of snow boots are needed, take it DDs Duke of Edinburgh hiking boots won't suffice?

Thank you Smile

Sorry last question! Aldi has ski wear on offer starting today - its waterproof rating is 3000m.

I think I'd read that the higher the rating the better - would this rating be ok for DD and I as first timers?

Was wondering if we needed a higher rating if falling over more!

Also the jackets are not padded so I guess we should wear more layers?

I'd go with Aldi (or decathlon) and save your money. It's good quality for the price. If it snows you just brush off the snow. Wear more jumpers if you need for warmth. Job done.

Should be fine, bulk doesn't equal warmth.

Thanks everyone!
I bought a size 10 jacket and trousers for me which I'm really happy with.

I bought DD an age 14-15 jacket (she's 13) which has come up massive annoyingly! I will need to see if I can swap it if there are any after work tomorow - annoying the closest aldi was a bit of a schlep 😳

Otherwise got socks, base layers and gloves which I'm otherwise happy with!

I'm going to go against the grain and say take as many base layers as you can! Last year I took 3 due to advice on here and I really wished I'd had more. It was roasting on the slopes and I found I only wore my base layer and jacket (Feb half term). Having only 3 meant I felt lie I was wearing the same clothes all the time, esp as we often called on for a few drinks at a pub at the end of the day before returning the hotel!

Given you'll spend 80% of your holiday in ski day wear, I'd invest more into it. This Feb I'm taking 6 sets of base layers for 6 days. If warm like it was for me, don't underestimate the sweating!

There's no way I could have worn ski socks twice without washing!!!!!
