Have we left it too late to book for Easter?

Ok following my earlier thread about NY, we’ve decided that Easter is better. And reading some other threads, quite like the sound of Italy.

However have we left it too late to get a reasonable deal for Easter? We want to ski in/ski out, catered chalet or hotel, one room for all 4 of us or inter-connecting rooms.

I do like the sound of Esprit particularly as they’ll pick up the kids in the morning, and the cocoa club in the evenings also sounds good (tho pricey).

Would we get a better deal and more choice if we booked for 2019? When do prime start booking?

Depends what time you intend to ski to. We are quite happy to finish up early afternoon so late afternoon slushy snow not a problem.

Have you considered looking at Les Arc 2000? We booked last minute with Esprit and it was a great resort for Easter skiing. The main bowl was fab for skiing with the kids with a variety of slopes for them to progress on to. The ski area is huge and even in the last week of the season had plenty of slopes to keep us entertained. We flew from Chambery and the transfer was great (something like 1.5hrs).

We've also been to La Rosiere, i think it was a 3hr transfer from Geneva. The biggest draw back for us was the link to La Thuile. If the kids have ski school on the La Ros side and you wanted to go further afield be warned it can take an age to get back to resort from the Italian side on an old 2-seater garden bench style chair lift.

Have you checked sky scanner for flights. Your weekend about 590 for 4 people to Grenoble and Geneva from Gatwick. And 340 to Lyon at ok flight times.. all could get you to the high French resorts. End of March you could have brilliant snow but it could be dodgy if too low.If you want to book in advance go high. Or wait it two or three weeks before and see what the snow conditions are like. At Easter we have done tignes, val d,isere, La Plagne, les arcs, stubai and badgastein which was slushy++ Easter is early this year so hopefully more snow sure. We have often been mid April. Somewhere like paso tonale may also be worth a look

Hmm I still think shorter transfer time wins. I will be sure to check Skyscanner tho as those Gatwick flights are about half the cost of ones I’ve found.

Esprit are totally sold out ( I’m assuming they don’t hold anything back for late deals?).

Will check out Les Arcs 2000 if we can get Chambers flights.

Have found some good independent places in Morzine tho.

Does anyone have any experience of Chalet Morzine or Alpine Adventure?

Thanks Smile

Morzine was totally green when I went at Easter 2 years ago - though you can bus to Avoriaz

Balls. That is not what I want to hear dinky!

Whatthe I can't see these £590 flights you're finding from Gatwick? I can find BA ones for £785 and those have quite late departures (i.e. 1550 outbound) which isn't great with DC, transfers etc.

Starting to wish I hadn't thought of going now....rabbit holes everywhere!

St Anton? Or is that really loud and fun and better if you're not with DC?

not getting at all desperate

We booked a week before we went with Esprit at Easter last year. If the Ski Total chalets don't fill they sell them as Esprit chalets so they could still have some late availability.
We've been to St. Anton with Esprit in late March. Nasserein was green on the lower slopes but fine higher up and you could ski all the way to Lech with no probs. There's a nice pool there and short transfers.

St Christoph is next to St Anton but higher.

OrangeSunset · 31/10/2017 13:03

High enough?!
Is St Anton high enough? Starting to learn it’s not just about altitude but also aspect Confused

I always think that the snow is the important point, that's why one skis, but others are less bothered about quality, time on skis, skiable area etc. This is why I would go to about one of about 5 resorts, but many more than that are open with happy clients. I suppose it's like buying a house, where are you happy to compromise.

If it was a choice between St A and not going, I'd go.

TriGirl007 · 31/10/2017 20:49

Morzine is lower and can struggle with snow at the end of the season but you can easily get up to Avoriaz from there which will have better chance of snow end of season. My brother did that this year at Easter and had AirBnB place I think in Morzine. Skifamillie have some good deals sometimes in higher resorts like La Plagne

TriGirl007 · 31/10/2017 20:50

Alt fly to Innsbruck and look at some of the higher resorts there within two hrs of the airport.
