Is there any way we can do this cheaper?

We've done 3 Esprit holidays so are now v spoiled. This year we're trying to cut costs - DH basically says no skiing, we can't afford £3K, which is probably true. That would be what Esprit would cost for the first full week in Jan (we have one DC who will be in Y1, just 6, has done two weeks skiing, and one 3yo who's done 3 nursery weeks but I know would love to ski).
Any way to do chalet style (not sure I can cope with s/c) with lessons and some childcare for considerably cheaper?
Neither of us need to ski all day every day though DH likes a bit of a challenge and I like a bit of cross country.
Unfortunately we live in the NW so not going to drive!

Flights will be more expensive of course, once you add in luggage.

We've been to Serre chevalier before - monetier has a great English ski school but unfortunately no apartments in complexes with pools - we did stay in a great English owned studio last year.

I'd definitely second flying into Turin - less popular with U.K. Skiers so even peak time flights are less pricey as is car hire. We were meant to be going to alpe dhuez but as easyJet have unhelpfully not got a return flight from Grenoble at Easter we're flying to Turin and going to montgenevre instead. Cost of flights, car hire and accommodation £1500 for 3 of us ( would have been £300 less except I'd rather have 2 bedrooms than squeeze into a studio)

I like:
Cervinia
Tignes/Val D
Val Thorens

Not been but
Solden gets recommended

Obergurl is also high. I personally don't like the lift layout as you always end up coming down to the village level. I like to go high and stay high when possible.

We are heading to Whistler this year at Easter and the following Easter, back to Cervinia.

Vail also gets lots of recommendations, but my assessment of snow history skiing is a serious business made me plump for Whistler if we were crossing the pond.

I'm a bit fussy though and lots of resorts will have snow: Les arc, La Plagne, 2Alps, but for me it's skiable terrain above the melt line that counts.
