We've booked our flights out for Christmas and we drive in March. Seemed odd to be booking 16/17 skiing while still having a broken ankle from March this year, but oh well. We have a family place out in Switzerland but DP works in a school.

No good stopovers unfortunately as we always drive through.

We've just booked our group of 27 for Austria for Feb half term 2017!! Woo hoo. Let's get summer out of the way quick! Grin

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 28/04/2016 20:09

We've always driven straight through too.

27! That's quite a group. I must admit I found our group the wrong number this year. Too big to be flexible, but too small to have enough easy options for all. 27 I think could tick that box.

IsletsOfLangerhans · 29/04/2016 17:15

Haven't booked yet, but already saved up 25% of the cost. Going back to Obereggen in Italy - had our first family ski holiday there this year and it was amazing. Never imagined it would be so much fun for all of us!

massistar · 30/04/2016 08:10

We've been in a few big groups. From 12 to 42. 27 is about right as it allows people to break away into smaller groups according to ability.

PestoSwimissimos · 25/05/2016 12:37

Well after much research & deliberations I have now booked a chalet in Baqueira Beret for Feb half-term.

Cannot

Wait

It just seemed bonkers not to book coz next year the available slots for parents to take their children skiing are so very limited.

I felt that I didn't want to go in the Christmas holidays, coz we usually see the grandparents and the last time we went at that time it was bitterly cold.

Then I would normally have considered going in the Easter holidays but Easter is so blooming late next year so...

We had only the option of half-term remaining and I didn't want to go to a resort which would be heavingly (is that a word Hmm ) busy.

it should be good Grin

dontcallmethatyoucunt · 28/05/2016 22:03

Pesto that's great.... I'm so jealous. Please come back and report in full

PestoSwimissimos · 29/05/2016 17:13

Am really excited as we've booked our first family ski holiday in Austria in Feb Well, we've booked accommodation, just looking at flights now. Do any of you experienced skiiers have any tips on when is best to book to get the best deals? Prices are so high - gulp!

Is it better to book early? I can't work out whether prices will go up or down between now and then. I imagine up, but just wondering if they fluctuate?

Also we had considered taking a train, but it looks like some of the sleeper trains are being discontinued and the train timetables come out so much later.

Can't decide what to do!

lovetoskimum · 14/06/2016 13:58

Just, where have you booked in Austria, ??

Could you drive ??

Nice to have you on this thread :)

Thanks for the welcome Smile

Really excited about skiing. And I love holiday planning too!

We're going to Fieberbrunn. Salzburg is the nearest airport, but Innsbruck and Munich both easily doable too.

Dh has mentioned driving but I think it might just be a bit far. Dc will be 3 and 6 - both pretty good in the car but even so. Plus we'd need snow chains etc. I don't know, maybe it would be OK but flying seems easier!

lovetoskimum · 15/06/2016 14:12

Just, Austria is nice to ski, we did 4 years in a row and that is where daughter learnt to ski.

Always did package back then but now self drive to Les Arcs now, as you will see from these threads, we are all quite skiing mad :)

Any advise that you need, you will get it here, come on get the 16/17 season and Happy Skiing Thread part 3 Started :) :)
