Tagging along while the others ski?

We have been skiing with Esprit for the last 3 yrs but this yr I'm going to be over 6 months pregnant so we weren't going to go but there are some very good late deals and dh, dd (6) and ds (4) are very keen.

Just wondering whether to let them go alone and have a week at home (loads to do in the garden and house!) or whether to tag along (I wouldn't ski). Dh reckons I'll be bored after the first day of wandering around and exploring etc - has anyone else done this?

Thanks

Take a book, book a room with a balcony and hope for sun. You can always meet up for lunch and maybe find a pool or spa to relax. Where are you thinking of going ?

Beabea · 01/01/2007 19:13

I would get bored but miss them if I stayed at home. I would still rather relax or busy myself at home.

Im not that keen on skiing at all but DH loves it. Not been for a few years now as we now have 2 LOs. But the time will come when I will have to agree to going.

I'd be tempted to go - if you lie in every morning and then have a leisurely breakfast it should be just about time to meet them for lunch (assuming they eat in town / at the bottom of the piste), then wander / read / shop / swim for a couple of hours in the afternoon till they stagger in.
Then you get the lovely cosy evenings (best part of skiing IMO) with them all...

My only reservation is would your DH be happy skiing alone, though I guess if you're in a chalet he's find some people of a similar standard.

thanks for the comments so far - I keep changing my mind. Have never left the children for more than the odd (very odd!) night and DH had orginally said he didn't fancy skiing alone but I pointed out he could have some lessons some mornings or go on the free guided tour that Esprit do and DD would be skiing with him in the afternoon (she got on really well last yr which is one reason I'm keen for them to go.)

I think the rest of the family will go and I need to decide whether to go with them - just need to get a resort a bit bigger than we have done before if I go. Sounds very selfish but I have a feeling I will spend the middle of the day thinking of everything I could have achieved at home (and won't be able to do once baby arrives). We bought a project of a house last summer and have only just scratched the surface of what needs to be done - due to have major building work starting end Jan for an extension (the baby was a big surprise!) plus the whole house needs rewiring, painting and decorating and have got so much to get done before EDD that it seems silly to spend a week away when I could be very productive!

I injured my leg on the second day of a skiing holiday and couldn't ski for the rest of our time there. Was initially soooooo upset but actually loved it. Borrowed books when I ran out, sat on balcony with espresso/had lunch/dozed/shopped then joined in aprez ski (kind of!)

I'd say go for it! enjoy lazing around in the sun (though saying that it is really important when/where you going so it's not freezing and there IS sun!)

Oooooh go, nice food, take a load of books and enjoy yourself. Pick your resort carefully - La Plagne wouldn't be good, but Courcheval or Tignes or Chamonix better. Remember that a lot of esprit places are away from the main resort so make sure there is a cable car and not a chair lift tothe resort if thats the case.

Oooooh, was going to suggest the consumption of lots of gluwein followed by lots of falling over but see you are pg. Bad luck!

LIZS · 01/01/2007 22:54

As you aren't planning on skiing and if you don't mind not having all the time to yourself if the kids want time out, I'd suggest forgoing Esprit(save some ££) and picking a more all-round, scenic resort with facilities such as Seefeld in Austria or using a Kinderhotel, for example, and booking direct.

HI I've been on Skiing holiday when 5 months pregnant and didn't ski. I had a lovely time took plenty of books and chocolates with me. I got up each morning for Breakfast then went off for a walk each day met with everyone at Lunchtime and then usually spent the afternoons reading.

I am in the same position this year we are currently trying to decide whether to go or not I am only 9 weeks pregnant at the moment but haven't skied for several years and had a MC in August so I wouldn't be skiing if we went. The lack of snow in alot of resorts is probably going to be our deciding factor.

fairyjay · 02/01/2007 12:03

I'd be happy to have some relaxing time to myself tmp!

Where have you seen the good late deals?

toomanyprojects · 03/01/2007 20:46

offers I have seen at just the ones on the Esprit website - save about £400 on the brochure price. Plus (as I won't be skiing) I wouldn't need a pass or lessons or ski hire.

The offers are pretty good for 7th and 14th - the ones for 21st and 28th (Jan) will probably come down a bit more soon - have been watching them since a couple of weeks before Christmas.

Prices for (7/1 or 14/1) are £900 - £1000 (not including any childcare, passes, etc). We'd need two passes, hire X 3, lessons X 2 and probably one Snow Club on top.

Will have a look and see how that compares to booking independently -
thanks for the tip LIZS.

It's been snowing in the last few days so difficult to resist!

We have been to Monchavin and La Rosiere - good for watching the little ones at resort level but no pools or much else to do. Will keep watching the prices for a bit,

Thanks again for your comments.
