Hi any other mums out there returning to skiing after 20yrs?

Please help!

I've just booked cheap flights and accommodation no going back now!

With my 2 boys and hubbie how exciting!

Its to please my boys, my eldest( 16 )loves the sport, been with the school once.

Ive chosen a family friendly resort in French Alps , I know we all get tuition, but it won't be together.

Any tips out there please, I'm panicking, maybe I've just lost the plot

I think I'm just realising maybe I'm too old now to start skiing again

Wall sits bugger my knees. I run and that is kinder to my knees (not sure if that is usual).

I have run for as long as I've skied, but one trip after a very low mileage year due to a change of job, OMG I could notice the difference. I hurt like hell after the first day and I had no stamina. To get the most out of your trip, don't skimp on the exercise.

... I like the look of that machine

"Wall sits bugger my knees. I run and that is kinder to my knees (not sure if that is usual)."

No, not usual. Done correctly, wall sits are what is recommended to strengthen leg muscles when your knees are already buggered and even walking is painful. (This tip was given to me when I was in this situation by none other than P Radcliffe and I think she knows a bit on the subject )

Running works the outer thigh muscles but not so much the inner ones (can't remember their names), which you need when skiing as you'll crouch a lot.

These tips re exercises have helped me too - thanks - will get started.
And, as another sufferer of 'buggered-knee-itis, I'll happily do the wall squats.

Hmm that's interesting. cote It might be because I'm usually doing a competitive wall sit comp with my fellow ski mum Grin. I will try a more moderated approach, but I run quite a lot and it works for me. However now wall sits are officially endorsed by Paula, I'm in (I luuuuurve Paula!).

Hi again skiing mums

Has anyone used shuttle bus from Nice airport to Isola area? Is it OK and do you book online or is it jammed packed?

I know we can cab it but prefer coach/bus more economical of course.

I went back to skiing after sixteen years and my DH 17 years. We are off on Saturday to Val Thorens, I do go to the gym a lot, that was till it was flooded and don't notice my legs being tired as much as DH. We are both 65 but will ski every day and not think twice.

Hi Deste
Have a wonderful holiday. Awh shame your gym flooded hope its sorted out soon.

You make me realise it doesn't matter I suppose how long the gap between skiing,or age ! But if yojre a fit bunny wil can enjoy it

I'm off cycling this afternoon that's my effort to get fit. But its hard getting motivated on your own.

Cote hi
Cheers I'm into the wall sits and any other non equipment exercise!

Workout Equip normally ends up down the shed, although hubbie has used weighs for years. (Defo not for me!)
