Ski goggles over glasses?

I'm just digging out my old kit ready for our first family ski holiday but my contact-lens days are now over and I'm wondering what to do. The goggles just about fit over my specs, but I'm wondering if they'll steam up. Do I need prescription goggles, and if so can they be bought inexpensively (as this holiday is probably going to be a one-off)?

They do cost quite a bit, but yes you can get prescription goggles.

The other thing I saw people using when we went this year, was a helmet with a pull down visor, over specs.

They are expensive, but you will need to buy a new helmet anyway if you haven't been for a while, so probably cheaper than getting a helmet and then separate prescriptions goggles.

Thanks Aliba. Do all helmets have visors? We'll be hiring some for the kids anyway, and I was thinking of getting them for DH and I too. I don't suppose they'll be top-brand helmets but if they're likely to have visors then perhaps none of us need goggles after all. (?)

No most don't have visors, the vast majority.

The ones I saw in a shop were about £150 - but, a helmet is £60/70 anyway and good normal goggles around the same. I don't know how much prescription ones are, but more than that.

Dds managed with googles over glasses for ten years with no problem. Just make sure they actually fit over.

Thanks Viva. That's the best news I've had all day.

No worries. Just remember to take an old pair with you incase of any damage. Dd has never damaged her glasses even after some big wipeouts so hopefully the googles protect them but it would be crap to be on holiday and break your only pair!

Several manufacturers make goggles that are designed to fit over glasses (OTG goggles) but many people manage with ordinary ones. There was a thread recently on this on Snowheads.

I went to Puy St Vincent a couple of weeks ago and wore the cheapest goggles that Decathlon do (£8) over my glasses. Absolutely fine, and better than the over the glasses goggles that I also bought.

I wear glasses and don't bother with goggles - I now have photo chromatic ones but before I used to put a clip on on them. Cost nothing much and worked fine.

If in a real blizzard I will wear standard decathlon goggles over my glasses, but I don't find it super comfortable. But then I hate goggles anyway, even with contacts.

My dh just put the goggles over his glasses, doesn't seam to be a problem.
