Is it possible to book great childcare without buying a package?

We are planning for Easter 2016 so need a highish resort.
I will be taking a 4 year old and want to make sure he has the best time possible. I have looked at Snowbizz and Esprit etc and the childcare looks great but I would prefer to book everything independently to save a bit of money. Any suggestions (not ESF- previous bad experience). We would need childcare from about 9-1, the afternoons would be a bonus but not essential.
Thanks in advance.

You can get private nannies which are not cheap, or alternatively some places (depends on resort) do morning or afternoon childcare only sessions for that age. It's a lot easier if they want to ski as there's more choice but I know some places just have standard childcare.

with snowbizz you can book the appartment only, and organise your own travel (it's about a 14 hr drive from calais). that still allows you to use their childcare and their english speaking ski lessons. I would recommend snowbizz, your son will have a good time with them, and that should mean he will want to come on your next ski trip too!
There are usually nurseries in most ski resorts - but be aware they probably won't be in english - and their standards can vary.

Own nanny, but wouldn't really be cheaper

We used the local nursery L'Outa in Morzine for 2 years when put DS was little. New purpose built building and flexible well priced sessions.

Could have posted this myself! We are currently with Ski2 in Champoluc. Child care with ski lessons for our 6yo from 10-3pm which is good. But it's not cheap. Downside is obviously price and the fact that the food in the hotel is really poor and YOU HAVE TO BUY WINE WITH YOUR MEAL! Previous chalets etc it's all thrown in. Currently sitting in room glugging lovely local white wine with nibbles prior to dinner. Me on Mumsnet, 6yo on iPad and DP on Facebook. Family bonding Wink. Love to return to the resort or nearby but an alternative to Ski2 would be great. I'm just researching this now if I find anything I'll let you know.

We have been with snowbizz for last 3 years. Last year we tried pricing everything separately and it came out higher than the snowbizz package. We drive so not including travel just for apartment, ski school and lift passes x 4 plus kids club and crèche for our youngest comes in about 2000. Also owners on site, childcare staff and ski instructors know all the kids names lovely atmosphere. Really not sure they can be beaten for prise and quality but will be watching this thread with interest as sooner or later we will have skied all the slopes at PSV and will need a new challenge.

I can also highly recommend L'Outa in Morzine. We have just come back, and are booking again for Easter 2016.

We used L'Outa when DS was 3 but wasn't that happy with it as they were mainly french speaking with no other English kids there and he wasn't that happy. Depends what age they are I suppose.

IthinkIneedmorewine · 08/04/2015 18:05

I think it also depends on time of year. The kids during Easter were almost exclusively English speaking!

Try Tignes and use Evo2 for lessons and T4 nannies for childcare. Excellent service from both. We had Stacey this year and she was amazing. We've used Evo for kids and adults and again excellent.

You can't beat Tignes for height and services.

I'd recommend snowwell for kit - it's a network (we used 'Guy clarey' in Tignes) the skis were sharp and very well priced.

I would also preorder your passes as you can save hassle and they post them to you.

Oh bother, sorry 4 too young for Evo. There is an English school locally. Marmottons is a younger place but quite focused on the Frnch market. Marmottons is the service esprit use but I'd look for the British school if I did it again as mine complained about not understanding the French speaking.
