Skiing in Vermont

I would love to do this next winter (preferably December of this year) but I want to incorporate a trip to New England generally.

Has anybody done this? Would appreciate tips as have no idea what I'm doing! Grin

I skiied at SugarBush in Vermont a looong time ago. It was a wonderful resort back then (maybe still is). One thing to be aware of though: skiing/slope conditions in Vermont (and the northeastern part of the US) can be quite icy. Definitely not the sort of snow/skiing experience found in the western part of America.

Thanks for that :)

Icy - cripes! Must be careful of that then!

We used to live in NYC and ski in VT every winter for a weekend at a time. We went to Stowe, Killington, Sugarbush, Okemo ...

TBH it wasn't that great. The mountains are low by Alpine standards and look like little rounded hills. Verticals are short and it can be cold and yes, icy. We only really skiied there regularly because it was driveable - for decent skiing we went out west to Utah or Colorado. In December I'm guessing it could still be rather brown and un-snowy, but it depends on early season snowfall. If I was you I'd base myself in a charming little VT town like Stowe, which will be nice anyway, and if you can ski then that will be a bonus.
