Do you take reception/primary kids skiing in term time?

Just wondering what others do. DD will start school in September and I am torn what to do about skiing next year. The holiday prices are so high and we normally go with some child free friends who I expect would balk at the difference. Equally I can hardly claim to the school that it will be a one off life changing trip! What do other people do? There seemed to be a lot of school age kids in our hotel a couple of weeks ago....

I would do it in a flash. Except DH is a governer so we can't.

The issue really is for the school - impact on attendance rates (which Ofsted look at) and extra workload for teachers.

And so it's easter for us. Half term is too ridiculous. My view's coloured by a bad experience last yr where we paid £££ and only our 5 yr old got to ski. Rest of us were ill and incapacitated Shock

I do agree that half-term is crazy. I am an obsessive skier, and previously have gone with the DC in half term as well as after Xmas and Easter, but this year I just can't face the half term crowds. The problem is that in France it coincides with the Paris half-term, so prices and lift-queues are ridiculous. Last year I took DC to Austria at half-term, where less crowded, but also the resort was nowhere near as good as the 3V where we normally ski.

I think if I did go again at half term I would go somewhere completely off the beaten track - Jasna/ Chopok, Kopaonik in Serbia etc. We are always on a tight budget and I think the overcrowding at half term is dangerous sometimes.
