Bargain basement ski weekend - HELP!

I am looking to book a 2 or 3 night break for H and I for his 40th birthday (early Jan). Haven't been skiing since having children and then we did it with friends for a week (and to be honest, someone else did the organising, we just had to pay and turn up to the airport!).

Obviously with limited time, I'm thinking of somewhere relatively close to an airport, maybe using a company that sort everything for you so you just literally turn up at the hotel and put the skis on. But then am guessing that doesn't come cheap.

Any advice welcome - am happy to book things separately so if anyone has any suggestions for good resorts (both can ski OK) and cheap accommodation, that would be great. Thank you.

Any idea of budget? And how good are you at skiing? Have you done 1 week or a lot more? It would be easier to do a package, but it may be cheaper if you do a bit of DIY at a less well known resort.

Under £1k (although might be massively out of date with costs) and decent skiers (maybe 6 or 7 weeks over the years but will be massively rusty!

DH and I have been on a few weekends, and I would highly recommend Les Gets and Alpe D'Huez for quick transfer time from airport, good skiing, and good accommodation.

In Alpe D'Huez we found apartments online (can't remember where), and in Les Gets we've stayed at the Hotel Christiania which offers short breaks (most hotels only do 1-week), and provides breakfast, afternoon cakes, 3-course dinner. They also offer transfers (which is often the killer sometimes in terms of price). In Alpe D'Huez we hired a car and it was an easy drive.

DH has also been on a lads' weekend to Les Deux Alpes and I think that was good too.

we did this a few years ago- first time back skiing after kids.

Geneva has the most choice of flights by far. We flew easyjet I think. Pick up a car and drive to one of the resorts around an hour away. We went to Chatel and stayed at the macchi (might be out of budget but you get the idea). We flew out thursday morning and were at the resort ready for lunch and a ski. Flew back Sunday night. It was brilliant- well worth doing.

if you have a flight in mind jet2ski has a thing where you can see all the resorts with an hours drive of the airport. Its really helpful.

Its very easy to hire gear and get lift passes when you arrive at the resort especially in January when it wont be busy.

You will have to let us know where you decide to go and roughly what it costs!
