Mid-April ski weekend recommendations - location and accommodation

Hi

I am hoping to arrange a sneaky adults only ski weekend (10 - 14 April) for 3 couples - intermediate skiers.

I have been to La Clusaz with a great company (half board and ski passes and transfers sorted for you) but am worried the snow will be iffy by then.

Can anyone recommend a higher resort tjat would suit us and ideally recommend any company/accommodation to book. We have no flights booked yet but would prefer somewhere you can fly to relatively cheaply from heathrow or luton with a transfer of no more than 1.5 hours at the other end.

At that time of year we've skied in Neustift and Les Arcs.

Thing is, because it's school hols and the absolute last weekend for some places, and others may already be out of snow, it's likely to be very very busy.

For me Neustift in April was one of the worst holidays we ever did - I've never seen it so busy. My DH skis there every year but in Jan or Feb and he couldn't believe it. You could Q an hour to get up the gondola. And no where to sit at the lunch stations. Not to mention the bus up from village. Horrible.

Les Arcs, on the other hand ( 1950 resort) - ski in ski out of the apartment so didn't matter how busy it was - you didn't have to stand and Q first thing. By that time some of the lower runs would be out of action - and we've made the mistake of chancing it and then having to take the skis off and hack across a field. We love Les arcs and I'd go back there like a shot, even at the end of the season and even if the lower runs were closed.

So what I'm taking ages to say is, don't go somewhere where you're dependent on one gondola to get started and check the snow reports!

Try Cervinia / Zermatt, where the two resorts join at Kleine Matterhorn there is a glacier, around 3,300m so super-high and snow-sure. Cervinia is 1hr45 drive from Turin which is served by BA & Ryanair so logistics are ok for a weekend.
