Where to go?!

DH and I are both desperate to go skiing. We've not been for 4 years but we used to go in large groups with friends to Chamonix and we now have DS to consider etc. So...

We prefer SC. We live in France and get discounted train travel with SNCF but aren't averse to going elsewhere. DH is a confident skier/snowboarder and I'm a hopeless skier/confident on green runs snowboarder. We will have an au pair to look after DS so don't need childcare but do need it to be relatively family friendly.

2 options:

Mid-Jan, just us so would need 2 bedrooms
Mid/late March with another family with 1 DS a similar age to ours so would need 3 rooms, or possibly 4 if we put the boys in together.

Where should we look at going? What's the cost likely to be?

I have always liked Flaine. It isn't a pretty resort, but I have always had good snow and it was purpose built in a great location. They have SC and you can look up the cost pretty easily. Les Arc is easy by train- we did SC there when DS was a baby.

I don't know about other areas but for train options:

Moutiers gives you access to The Three Valleys. In Jan, the higher resorts (ie Val Thorens) are likely to be very cold and exposed but more snow sure.

Bourg St Maurice accesses Les Arcs, La Plagne etc.. I've not skied much in that area but hear they are family friendly.

Les Arcs and Les Plagne are very family friendy. We booked an SC apartment with Mountain Crush which worked out brilliantly well. Right in the centre of Belle Plagne, ski in/out, very comfortable. Highly recommend. We stayed in their Matafan Mio apartment - it does sleep 6 but personally I would say 4 is comfortable, 6 would be a squeeze.

Yes, la plagne is nice.

Remember if you go late march you need somewhere high up to ensure snow.
