School ski trip - help!

I am a total non-skier, but my two boys are off for a week skiing in Alpe d'Huez with school during the Easter holidays. I have got NO idea what they are going to need.

So far they have - each:

Salopettes
Jacket
2 pairs of ski gloves
4 pairs of ski socks
One set of base layers (actually for rugby, but I'm sure it will do)

Boots and helmet are being provided by the trip.

I'm sure that school will provide a list of what they need, but probably three days before they are due to depart. What else would you recommend thay take? They are aged 10 and 11, and their dad (also a non-skier) is going too.

Any help gratefully received!

Probably a couple more sets of thermals.

Goggles or sunglasses - I find goggles much more comfortable with a helmet

Snowboots for out and about town.

Hat for times when they're not wearing their helmets.

Suncream.

Perhaps a neck muff, though it's likely to be warm in April.

I'll keep thinking.....!

Thank you! Do goggles fit over glasses? One is a glasses wearer.

Shouldn't be too cold if they are going at Easter. Make sure they have a polo neck, as you need stuff around your neck.
Long johns / leggings
Goggles are important. Don't be talked into sun glasses for kids. They invariably drop them / break them / lose them. Goggles are much better.

Thin gloves, to wear round resort or as liners.

Sunblock lip salve.

FreeButtonBee · 05/03/2012 11:06

you can get googles that fit over glasses - the have cut outs in the foam. My DH found that they made a massive difference in comfort/hassle.

You ladies are great.

Are these the kind of thing he needs?

Yes, got same ones for my boy, first time skiing with him next week! They go comfortably over the helmet too.

I got thermals from www.outdoorclearance.co.uk for both DH and DS if that helps, and agree about neck gaiter or snoody thing.

Brilliant. I think I'm almost sorted now. Just have to get names in everything once it all arrives and jobs a good 'un.

Ski ties?

SkiBumMum · 05/03/2012 13:26

Lip balm/sun screen on a neck cord so doesn't get lost.

Mini/snack mars bars for jacket pockets (if allowed.

Scholes34 · 05/03/2012 13:30

Lots and lots of snacks. I would hope it's not a case of them being "allowed". I think they're a necessity.

My DD did ski-ing with the school at half-term (absolutely loved it - expensive, but felt it was a worthwhile expense that we'd stretched outselves to afford, and bless her, she rang from the slopes part way through the holiday to let us know how much she was enjoying it and to say thank you.)

I hope your boys have an excellent time.

imnotmymum · 05/03/2012 13:35

Googles def and a few buffs etc as get wet so easily and nice to change in day so not sore and soggy, lipsil and plasters as invariably will get blisters

PostBellumBugsy · 05/03/2012 13:58

The mini packs of percy pigs are really good. They fit into a ski jacket pocket & give a fairly instant sugar hit.

We all have our gloves on those elasticated string things (me included) as it is just one less thing to worry about losing.

We find crocs really useful on ski holidays - used in the room, for going to pool / hot tub and for wearing over ski socks to walk down to the ski locker room where we put boots on.
