Hi all
looking for advice on putting my baby who'll be 13 mths when we go skiing in childcare while we ski. we're thinking of going with crystal and i've read pretty good reports of their childcare on here. But ... it takes babies so long to get used to being left with new people that i'm really worried dd will just have a miserable time for 6 days ... she's just starting with chldminder here and it's an up and down process but definitely not without tears. But it's worth it as here it's for the long haul. I'm not sure i can face putting her through upset just so we can ski. ... would be interested to know other people's experiences of putting babies under 18mth into ski creches ...

Hi, I never put mine into childcare while skiing. Just didn't fancy it when they were babies. We tended to take turns but was easy as we always went with friends and/or family so me and DH took mornings or afternoons to go off and ski while the other played in the snow, went for walks etc. with the LO. Personal preference though and I might have done it if we were going just as our family as don't fancy skiing on my own!

yeah, i think i'd be happier with that ... now thinking of seeing if my mum will come and help out babysitting!

We have done it both ways. ONe holiday we took my parents too, DD was 9 months then and to be honest it was really hard work. She just didn't want anyone else but me, period. She also wouldn't drink any milk and barely ate anything all week!

When she was around 18 months we went with esprit and she was in their nursery. She was fine, cried at drop-off but it stopped as soon as we were out the door. Their childcare is really excellent, I couldn't fault it at all.

We're going again with our (now) two children in MArch and both will be in childcare for half the day. The other half we'll spend with them. For us that's a good compromise. We're also taking my mother in law, mostly so she can have a break but also so that if DD doesn't like the childcare or something, we have a bit more flexibility.

Esprit were really good in that you could call up the nannies and see how your baby was doing - also, you don't have to put t hem in for hte whole day. You could do, for example, 2 hours in, then lunch together, then 2 hours in again. There are other similar companies, ski famille looks good on paper but we haven't been with them.

Put my son in to Mark Warner creche at 6 months - no problems at all. I supose it largely depends what your "lifestyle" is like back at home - e.g., AP/SAHM/friends/etc., etc.

Ski Famille has their nannies come into your chalet for the childcare, rather than you having to take your little ones to a creche in a different room and/or building - we found this made a big difference with the kids settling, esp. when they were younger. Family Friendly Skiing is another company who (I believe) also does this.
